Hi, just had the saddler out, I was told by the back lady that my saddle didn't fit and not to ride in it.
So I called this saddler and said I want a different saddle, please bring out brown 17'' saddles to try, i may consider a new one.
So saddler comes and say's my saddle fits fine, it could do with a little stuffing taken out which is £100!!!
and she brought 2 mank old saddles with her, one black, and said that's all she had second hand wise, but she could make a new one for £860!

I said to her I wouldn't of had you out if id of know you just had one brown saddle to sell!

I had to pay £30 for nothing basically, Last time I had another saddler out he had at least 10 saddles to look at.

Should I call and complaine?

I am finding it increasingly difficult to find/get good saddlers these days. I have tried a few in the berks area and all have been very disappointing and given poor service. What area are you? I would also be annoyed but at least she's saved you a ton of money, thats if the saddle does actually fit ;)

Im in Hampshire, Ive just spoken to the backlady and she said she was sure the saddle wasn't right, but there is a possibility that his back has come up and changed shape a little since his last treatment.
She's said to ride in it again this week and see how he is when she next see's him.

if your based in hampshire Meadowlea Saddle fitting service is brilliant.
Jill has a can do personality but will tell you it straight she is more concerned about the horses welfare in all cases then looks to what the riders wants and needs are she works closely with physios instructors and vets to get the most out of your horse she is very generous and spents so much time talking through the options she is also very calm with the horses (as mine is very flighty).

Don't see what your problem is other than the poor selection of saddles really. Surely it's better to be told that 'no, your saddle doesn't fit but by taking out some of the flocking it will and will cost you £130 rather than several hundred £' than to be sold a new saddle for the sake of it? or am I missing something?

Another vote for meadowlea - very honest and won't rip you off. They also seem to stock quite a few saddles. Failing that - I loaned about 4 from Saddle Exchange to give the saddler a selection to work with.

Also, as it happens - I have a brown GP saddle I need to sell. 17-17.5" medium fit but will prob need reflocking. PM me if you want any more details:)

Was the saddler one who was recommended to you?

Personally I would be quite grateful if a saddler was able to sort my saddle out and didn't try and sell me a new one straight off.

luckily my saddler is brill,

first time she came out she brought about 10 and i got one, but it didnt fit my long thighs so i asked for a jumping saddle and she brought another 10 different saddles to try!

We used to have a DIY livery who was like a tennis ball betweent he physio, back person and saddler - they all kept passing the buck from one to another, and charging her a fortune in fees while it went on. Think that you have to decide which one you trust, and go with them.

how does the back lady know that the saddle does not fit? She should advise that the saddle should be checked, not tell you that it does not fit if she is not qualified to.

if the saddler says the saddle fits with some flocking removed then is that not a better option than buying a new one? You tend to find that many saddlers do not stock secong hand saddles anymore due to health and safety (accidents happening due to age of saddle).
In my opinion its better that a saddle fits your horse rather than it being the right colour. The saddler may have only brought the saddles that she thought would fit your horse rather than bringing ones that were the right colour but wrong size?! Im not sure if there is anything to make a complain about but Im sure if you phone the saddler and speak to them then you should be able to work something out.
