Apologies for the rant but on my own this evening and feel the need to let off steam.
The saddle I had for my mare was too wide for my new horse. Rather than try and sell it privately it was passed to saddler ( quite well known in my county ) to sell on my behalf.
At the begining of August I had the chance of selling to a client of my instructors and rang the saddlers to advise I would be coming to pick up the saddle to take for her to try. "Oh I think its sold" said the girl, I asked her to find out for definate and ring me back as was quite a way for me to travel if not there, also needed to arrange to leave work early. Anyway after a couple of hours with no call back I rang again. "Yes saddle is sold, once the cheque has cleared we will send you the money" Brilliant thinks I. Anyway a couple of days later I go on holiday for 2 weeks thinking cheque will be there on my return. Get back from holiday - no cheque - ring saddler, "oh will be being sent out sometime this week". Weekend comes no cheque. Monday morning ring again, will be sent tonight, now a month has passed since my saddle sold. On the following Friday cheque arrives, rush to bank in lunch break to pay in. Checked bank account following Monday no sign of cheque, ring bank, cheque was post dated so they have sent it back to me. Ring saddler and to my shame have a bit of go at girl on phone about them sending me a postdated cheque after all was my money. Anyway after a week cheque still not arrived, ring bank again definately sent it back, suggested that I contact issuer and ask them to stop cheque and re-issue. Well feeling a bit sheepish, after previous rant, did this. Spoke to manager and she said she would check her bank statement to make sure cheque not cashed and ring me back. No phone call, husband rang for me as busy at work, same thing happened. Anyway after another 3 weeks (now 2 months after saddle sold) with me ringing every couple of days, cheque finally arrives on Friday just gone. Saturday morning go to bank, get cashier to check cheque is okay to pay in (bit paranoid) and money due to clear today. Go into online banking tonight and cheque has been returned so still don't have my money. Will have to ring branch tomorrow to find out reason but as cheque was okay can only thing either bounced or stopped. Am a little annoyed as saddler took a good lump of comission for selling this saddle. Also my wonderful instructor sold me a dressage saddle, saying she would wait for her money until I got the money for my saddle so am feeling guilty that still not paid her. Anyway tomorrow, once I have found out why cheque is being returned my Hubby who is 6ft and rides a very large motorbike is going to make a visit to saddler and ask for the cash. By the way he is not in anyway threatening and will deal with them much more calmly than I could, just added the motorbike for dramatic effect just in case anyone had read this far and was getting bored.
Does anyone think I am being unreasonable in wanting cash, I know that it wasn't the saddlers fault the bank lost the original cheque but I am getting to the end of my tether.
Any rant over, it's acutally amazing how much better I feel putting this down in writing, sorry its so long.
