Hi everyone, I'm new here! I'm looking to get a saddle for my awkwardly shaped TB mare. I've tried Goodwins and they've recommended a Kent and Masters high either GP but Im not 100% sure it's what I'm looking for and the price is quite high when I'm not sure! I plan to ring Berneys tomorrow because I loooove their saddles but I had one before and it didn't fit so I ended up selling it.

Does anyone know if there's any other saddlers in Ireland I could try? My other issue is I don't currently have transport so would need someone to come to the yard to fit it. I'm on the Meath/Dublin border.

Thanks in advance!!

A berneys prob wont fit a horse thats a bit awkward saddle wise and they don't come out you have to go to them. Holmstead has someone that fits saddles but again you have to go to them and im not sure if shes a master saddler or not. Saoise saddlery does nationwide fitting I think though ive had no experience with them. They're based in Westmeath I believe - theres adds on done deal. Ive an awkward to fit connie got a kent and masters through goodwins and it worked out very well, i was skeptical as I wanted somthing more modern shaped but now I really like it as does the pony. For what you get they are pretty good value they do take about 6 weeks to be made though. Best of luck!

berneys tend not to fit high withers from ym experience. you can box a horse there to try though.

I have two high withered ones, and goodwins came and fitted saddles to them. one has an albion which was pricey enough, the other fitted a thorowgood, which was cheap.

Thanks for the replies!

I think it'd be a long Shot to get a Berneys to fit her..I think I'll have another look at the K&M saddle. To be fair the guy from Goodwins was very helpful and nice about it and gave me some very good advice. I just didn't find a huge amount of good reviews of them online when I had a look.

Surely there's someone in Dublin who'll fit a saddle, not necessarily someone from a company. Just a person who specialises in fittings. Have you tried to find one on google? I know there's a woman in Limerick where I am who does this.

The only person I would ever recommend is George from Goodwins - who is female btw! She is Master Saddler. Call Goodwins back and ask specifically for her. I bought a K&M from her last year and she couldn't have done enough for me - my horse was later diagnosed with Kissing spines and she refitted the saddle with a Prolite pad for me.
