I was just wondering how people decided which brand of saddle they were purchasing and where they would buy it from? Obviously you know the type you want i.e. dressage etc but I wondered what else fuelled the purchasing decision.

Usually saddler will come out with a van full of saddles to try. It helps if you are able to give them some basic details of your horse and yourself. The only way to select a saddle is for the saddler to advise which ones are most likely to fit your horse and then they will want to see you ride in them. You will know which ones feel most comfortable/secure for you and the saddler will see which fit the two of you best.

the one that fits the best for the horse - my horse fits best in an albion k2 jump as he needs the flap etc to sit over his shoulder to stop it from being pushed back - he also needs an infill panel and a deep panel on the back he also needs the extra bit of leather at the front - my horse is a very strange shape and short backed - alot of horses fit in most types so you choose one that you find comfortable too :)
