I would be interested to know if a specific type of saddle could improve your riding. If you are used to making do with a GP, would your riding improve if you bought a discipline specific saddle ??

My dressage saddle helped my position & seat no end - i seriously struggle to ride in anything but a dressage saddle now! So i would say 100% yes!

I bought a dr saddle 6 months back and it has really improved my position and ability to influence the pone

The improvement has carried over into the gp too.

Never mind a specific discipline saddle just a different GP can really help.

I had my saddles stolen so had one lent to me while mine were being made, the important thing to me was that it fit my horse but i didn’t realize just how hard it would be to ride in a saddle that didn’t suit me. My instructor was shocked too and said my riding was so different and i struggled to get my leg on correctly. My new GP arrived and everything is back to normal i can ride again (well as good as i could before).

For me I find it's not the kind of saddle but alot depends on how/where the stirrup bars are placed- too far forward, throws my leg position and then I can't ride for toffee. I tend to avoid jumping saddles tho, vsd or dressage for me if I can.

Yup makes a huge difference. I used to ride D in a wintec gp, but had to change when he got a bad back. Saddler fitted a new saddle to both of us and after trying several different one now ride in a Bates VSD (have short legs so the cut of the gp meant my legs were flapping around) and its completely changed my riding. I dont bounce about cos the saddle was too big for me and my hips only very occasionally hurt now where as it was every time i rode before. Plus the horse in much happier in it and goes sooo much better.

Couldn't agree more! I recently changed from a dressage saddle with huge knee blocks to an Albion SLK, and found that the new saddle makes me sit much more correctly and I find everything easier! Apparently the knee blocks on old saddle, because they were so big, were forcing my legs into a fixed position and I could not sit correctly
