I need a new saddle for my TB who is, like most others, very high-withered..

What saddles do all you TBers use for your horseys?

(Sorry if I sound like I don't have a clue - its because I don't in the saddle area! :P)

Thorowgood high withered teamed with a Numed high wither numnah. It won't necessarily be perfect direct from the shop, so I always suggest a saddle fitter to confirm/adjust the saddle. They're not too expensive and quite popular so ebay is a good place to start. :)

I'm pretty sure I have a Kent & Masters High Withered 17in changeable tree GP. Got it new in April and love love love it :) :)

Best advice I can give is find a good saddler in your area give them as much info about horsey and you before so they can bring a good selection and then try them out with the saddler.

Good luck

Agree with this. I have a high withered TB - Thorowgood and hi withered numnah or poly pad.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I had one made to measure for my really high withered TB by Matt Marlow of the English Saddle Company. It is a superb fit and I didn't realise how well my oldie could move until I had this saddle made for him. Am thinking of getting one for my new younger one as well. He travels all over to do fittings and they are about £699 for a GP and I think about £799 for a dressage, but might be worth checking his website out.

albion with police points for the high withered! Also make sure whatever you buy is flock filled not pannelled as they can be adjusted within reason.

My 19 YO TB has an Ideal 1350 GP with an extra deep rear gusset. His Thorowgood H/W used to sit on his wither 3" down the gullet at the correct width or tip back and pinch his shoulder when made more narrow to lift it off his wither. A lot of issues you will find with horses with high withers is that the rear gusset isn't deep enough and they tip back, just a warning from personal trial and error :) Good luck!! :)

Get a saddle fitter! You might want to look at various makes in a shop and sit on a few (seriously! It has to fit you and the horse) then decide what you want to pay and what you like most, then give the saddle fitter a call with your requirements so they can bring out lots to try.:)

I have a narrow Cliff Barnsby saddle that has come off my anglo arab and he has high withers and it was perfect for him,he's just gone in a narrow/med saddle so will have to ebay it me thinks, along with 101 other things that they've outgrown etc!

Originally I bought a T6 saddle but it was too forward cut and the his scapula was hitting the pannels and he ended up grumpy and bruised (and putting the saddle further back it just didn't work).

So I now have a m/w Jeffries Falcon Hawk Event High Wither and it fits like a DREAM. Saddler came back with about a dozen saddles for us to try. GFS Fieldhouse, Barnsby, Ideal. I was gutted the Ideal didn't fit but the Jeffries is so comfortable and horse is so happy in (and he tells me VERY quickly if he's not happy!)

The only saddle so far that has fitted my narrow high withered TBx is a Kieffer Garmische with cut away front. Im currently having an Albion K2 made for us as the Kieffer didn't fit me, and am confident as have had one before that'll be perfect for him (fingers crossed). Coupled with Nuumed HW numnah of course.

Thankyou very much everyone :) getting saddler out next week hopefully, so shall let you know how we get on. Gonna be lunging for a while me thinks! :D

I've got a black country event with inserts/gussets and an Kieffer Kiel dressage saddle and both suit my boy.
He's got big withers, huge shoulders and takes a medium.
