i have a 4 year old warmblood who has a fairly long back but is quite fine and quite narrow in front, at the moment i use a wintec isabell dressage saddle. I bought this for the adjustable gullet as my horse is fairly young and i use it with a sheepskin bartl numnah but Im not sure my boy is entirley comfortable with this saddle although i find it very comfortable to ride in. Does anyone else have a similar build of and can you recommend any particular make of dressage and jumping saddle for this shape of horse please

The comfort will depend more on the fit (width & template) of the saddle and the muscle tone of the horses back than it being long, in my experience it is much easier to get a saddle for a long backed horse than a short backed one. i would get a saddler out with a few different makes. i have found spalding, GFS and albion good in the past.

He's been off for winter so has very little muscle tone on his back, Im just bringing him back into work now so hoping to be on him in a few weeks.. Thanks for that Ive actually seen some nice GFS and Albion saddles so will have a look at those..

For long backed horses you need to make sure that the saddle will still be balanced between the shoulder and the loins and also it wont be too big for the rider.

The Isabelle Werth has a very deep seat - you may find that the same seat size in other makes will be too big for you. This will center your weight in the front of the saddle, rather than the middle.

The best thing to do would be to get a saddler out to see your horse and bring a variety of saddles for you to try. I would steer clear of Albions though - perhaps look at Ideals.
