Any recommendations? I know New Forests can be quite hard to fit saddles for because they have pretty flat backs yet not very big/wide. Its for a three year old, to break, so Showing/Working hunter/GP type saddle. Thinking it'll have to be 17" even if he's only 13.2HH or I'm not going to fit! Don't want to spend too much either. Hum.

What makes have you found fit yours?

I just bought a cheap saddle out of the paper for Bear when I broke him in, it was the right width ect.. But he only wore it for a few weeks after he was broken before I invested in a better one!

saddle company Native pony saddle. google them, you may be able to get one second hand on ebay. They're adjustable and very very comfy and smart too.

JM uses Saddle Company saddles on her newfies and they seem to fit well. Make sure you get a good fitter in to do the work though.

I am a SC fitter and have fitted SC to several NFs - but I doubt that a 17" will fit your pony. I think you are more likely to be looking for a 16.5" adult with perhaps 17" flaps.

The half leather/half synthetics have been very popular because their are so light and also because they can be adjusted they are very good for youngsters that are still growing.

My foresters wear

Morris & Nolan Native Pony Saddle 17" MW
Ideal Working Hunter 17" W

One is 14.1, the other a big sturdy(5'6 rugs) 13.1

Ideals seem to fit foresters very well. I have also heard Forester saddles are good too.

My Foresters are ridden in a Pesosa, an Albion and GFSs. They are all 16'' to 17'' but all wide fitting. The Foresters are between 13.2hh and 15hh (I know, overheight so officially a Forester cross). Of my 6 ponies, none of them were a pain to find a correctly fitting saddle.

SC Saddle on mine..full leather GP 16 1/2 IN brown..

i asked for the point and balance straps to be fitted before it was delivered...

fits beautifully

mine is a handmade one so im not sure which make, but its a 16 inch wide. fits beautifully, i guess he could go up to a 16 1/2 but not 17 inch. He is 13.2hh by the way!! I would personally go for the native comapny ones, they \are designed to fit the stocky buyild of natives!!!!

How the hell do all you get your selves into 16" saddles

I'll try a 17" and see if it's too long on his loins etc, I've had 17 1/2" on 13.3HH finer then him, which have been fitted for me.

I have a 17.5 for my 14h forester it is saddle company WH and a great fit - my forester has quite a long back though.

LOL! Ive got a 16'' on my cob until he changes shape again, and theres still room in it!! Ive got a ducks ass too! Im lost in 17'', I can ride my welsh A with a 14.5 or 15'' and fit in it!!

i think you would be suprised what you can fit in!!! ive ridden in the 12" safari cub saddle before.... ok i couldnt move once i was in it! but i could sit in it
