YM granddaughter has finally grown out of her cub saddle. What would be the best saddle to go for bearing in mind that the shetty has a tabletop back and no withers. It just seems like there is a mine field of mind boggling options so any advice would really be appreciated

I have just had the same problem and have gone for the Thorowgood Pony Club with fish. It fits well but have had to put a crupper on it due to Shetlands shape.

we use the thorowgood maxam saddle. We use a non slip pad under it and it never moves an inch.

S.Milner and son (of melton mowbray) make shetland saddles (more like leather pads).

Solution Saddles (www.totalsaddlesolutions.com) make a mini version of their flexible Energist which works fantastically well on mini tabletops.
Shaped like proper saddles, they offer good rider support and balance to help good posture and effective riding, and are a long way from the old fashioned pony pads.
Personally, I think that cruppers should be illegal...

sounds like the shetland my niece rides!! His back is very flat and no withers, the only thing that stays put is the cub saddle. his leather show saddle has a lot of movement and is too straightcut for her. but the cub saddle doesnt really look smart enough for pony club. I don't think the thoroughgood saddle will be small enough for his back though he is only 8hands and his back seems to tiny for 15" but i'm going to ask my saddler to have a look, i have a feeling it won't stay in place though without a crupper and i don't like the use of them really.
