What make of saddles are good for horses with high withers?

I have a thorougood T4 at the moment which I do like but I'm considering upgrading in the summer to a leather one.

I do like the Saddle Company saddles. Does anyone have one of these on a high withered horse or do they not suit them?

Any other suggestions?

I had an Andrew Gould saddle made for my high-withered TB/WB - so comfy

After he wrecked it (rolled in it and snapped the tree - little s***), I got a hollistic saddle from APG Equine. They're expensive compared to some of the other saddles out there but I've had my current one for 4 years and it still looks like new (even if it's a little bit hairy - the panels are serge)

I guess it depends on your budget :)

I dont have a massive amount to spend on one but the reason i'm planning the upgrade now is so I can save up a bit.

I have a feeling its going to hurt but i'd rather pay once for the right saddle than several times for the wrong one!

i know what you mean - that's why i went with a m2m one so i can guarantee it will fit him.
Although as I did the template for the latest one, I'll be getting a master saddler out to check it before i ride in it.

Good luck with your search

I have not yet found a TB that a Wintec or Bates saddle won't fit. However, I had a bad experience with a brand new Wintec cair saddle lately (panels as hard as concrete and horse freaking out), so had the cair removed and replace with flocking.

LOL, meet my TB Hattie who lets me know what she thinks of Wintecs by bucking like mad!

I really like Lovatt and Ricketts saddles, they fit my range of TBs very well (but not sure I am really the right person to be answering this thread as I do have two that take a wide fitting saddle - I assume you are also looking for recommendations for narrow saddles that clear the wither!!)

She isnt that narrow - Im currently using a medium gullet in my T4 (cant remember the colour) but she does have really quite high withers so im more concerned about brands that clear withers well. I dont think width fittings will be so much of a problem.

Reg is a high-withered TB with fairly broad shoulders but is also quite short through the back for his height. His jumping saddle is a Collegiate thingy, and his dressage is a Cliff Barnsby. They fit him beautifully and he goes really nicely in them. To find them, we went to our local tack shop and loaded up on every 17/17.5" saddle there that looked suitable and had a fitting session back at the yard... Together, they cost less than £900 (dressage is second hand, the jumping was new but an end-of-line jobby).
