Sadly i have a wintec saddle which i dont get along with at alll!!! it fits me and my horse fine but they are soooo uncomfy !!! And tbh they dont seem to livel long with every day wear and tear. i have had myn for a 2 years and its looked after always got a cover on it. The underneath of the saddle flaps are torn and the girth strapes are died :S so if i was buying a new one what wud u recommend ?

I'm about to burn my Saddle company one - well not, actually, it's for sale for anyone who loves them... (16.5 inch, wide, dressage, black)

I'm having one hand made by Kay Humphries, but if that doesn't work, Ill try a WOW

I dont find the Thorowgood as comfy as the wintec. But the Thorowgood is on a cob so she's very wide and the wintec is on a tbxid so not as wide. The wintec seems to have worn better than the thorowgood but I have just ordered a wintec 2000 and dont think that will keep its looks as well as the 500 - so thats no help to you really

I find my wintec uncomfortable on my cob X, but the exact same saddle on a hackney was far more comfortable - maybe they're just better on narrower horses.

Can't wait til mine stops changing shape and I can get her a "real" saddle

It depends on your horse really. For example, Wintecs are really only designed for TB types - the tree is banana shaped and the panels are far to sloping for a broad cob - they suit the sloping back of a TB. Also, it would depend on what you wanted to do e.g. showing, jumping, dressage etc. as well as your horse's conformation e.g. if he has big shoulders he would do better with a straighter cut saddle. Budget wise, there are lots of choices and you could always get a good saddle second hand.

I personally like SC saddles because the tree is adjustable, not just the gullet. However, I used a Thorowgood dressage for my youngster before fitting his SC. I really liked the Thorowgood, and there are lots of different versions to suit different breeds and I rate them higher than the Wintec.
