I've noticed in many pictures everyone ( pic I've seen) have leather saddles, does anyone not ride in one? I'm looking into saddles at mo & wish to hunt but can't afford umpteen saddles, but want to fit in & have toyed with idea if thorowgood/wintec sort. Would I be one of few? Or is it be coming more common.

I have had a Wintec saddle for hunting the last 12 years, and the Huntsman has had one for 5. The black ones look more natural than the brown ones. I've got no issues with the way they look (up close you can't tell anyway) and no issues with having one when in scarlet. Also on the plus side they are easier to keep clean and don't get saddle soap residue over breeches.

Like any saddle, great if they fit. There are only so many options and they really do not fit all horses, and even if they fit your horse at one time, if the horses changes shape a lot then it wont' necessarily be able to be adjusted to fit. For instance, as horses get wider they also generally get flatter from front to back, but widening a saddle makes it more curvy, you can see the issue. The tree shape has to fit no matter what the adjustability of width and even flocking/Cair/shims.

Lots of people use them, you even see the odd one at lower levels of showing, I find the synthetic trees of even the wide/cob ranges are not always stable of flat enough for wide flat horses (I specialise in fitting these shapes).
