YO had recommended that the horse I loan needs a new saddle. She's a really knowledgeable lady and I trust her completely.
Physio is out next week so I'll get her to look at him and double check.

Now IF he does need a new saddle I'm not sure what I am going to do...

Because he is only on loan the parents are very unwilling to spend a lot on a saddle and the lady who owns him is in no position to buy one for him (hence being on loan)

Any suggestions? I just want what's best for pony without breaking my parents band account :/

Sell current one and buy a new one with the money from that, or swap for something else. Obviously owner would need to agree, but would mean you didn't need to spend much on a new one?

Depending on his shape, you could get a wintec. You can pick a wintec 500 up for around £100 on ebay. If your YO is very knowledgable in saddle fit, she could help you choose the correct gullet size using the wintec gullet measure guage. Or you could pay a saddler to come out and fit it for you. However, wintec 500's and 2000's are only suitable for TB type horses and SOME warmbloods and ID crosses. They are not suitable for cob types or some of the flatter backed warmbloods or arabs.

you can get some fairly cheap saddles if you shop around and don't go brand new - though you'd need a saddle fitter too to ensure its not got broken tree etc. most saddle fitters carry 2nd hand saddles. Could you come to an agreement to buy the horse a new (2nd hand) saddle cheap and owner pay for the saddle fitting session. Then you've got a saddle to sell/trade or use on another horse if/when the loan ends.
