Hello What are people's views on saddles for growing horses? Interchangeable gullet system or changing saddles every 5/6 months? Obviously fitted by a saddle fitter!
Bee's been growing a fair bit, but she's still in the same saddle and it still fits. So we seem to have gone for the 'she has x characteristics which aren't changing, and will be a medium/ medium wide fit when she's fully grown looking at how she looks now'. And got a saddle which fits that, and padded it out for while she's still a weaker baby...
I'm of the opinion on a growing horse you can self fit but the saddle must be slightly wider than needed and use appropriate padding. You want the saddle to sit level and be mindful of clearance - too low means too wide. I would only do this for 6 months max, as by then I would expect a reasonably muscled horse. I would then call in the expert.
