Very very sad. Fox got one of our lovely chickens yesterday, in full daylight. We have (had) 6 lovely girls, 2 cream legbars, 2 wellsommers and had 2 exchquer leghorns now only one. We always lock them in safe at night but during the day they love marauding around the farm scratching and sun/dust bathing. they know our cars and come running to greet us when we get home. Sorry i'm soft i know. but the leader of the pack we called little voice cause she was the noisy one! she was missing, we knew, when we found her she had no head, looks like she put up a good fight tho. We had a cremation so there was nothing to dig up or find later poor girl.

We used to have chickens and we used our dogs to chase the foxes off.

Illegal I know but never mind.

Trouble is, we got a new dog and it ate the chickens!

i was always distraught when id discover one or other of the ducks/guniea fowl had been taken.

bit hardened now and any carcasses left behind get poisoned and left out for mr foxy to return to

So sorry to hear this. I'm currently debating whether to get some chucks but I'm worried about foxes, esp. as I can't get back before dark during the winter :(
Someone told me that keeping guniea fowl with them will see the foxes off but looking at other posts, this doesn't seem the case.
Any suggestions??

Ooo interesting a few weeks ago the fox got in and killed 6 of our 7 chickens, the one it didnt get was Clara Cluck Cluck, she was evil and would attack the dogs for no reason but would also trot around quite happily with them if she pleased any way a couple of weeks later she mysteriously dissappeared during the day and there was the sinister patch of feathers, but we thought nah foxes only come at night. But Clara hasnt been seen since  :(
