Hey,

My horse is coming through a saecrilliac injury, thankfully things are now starting to get better.
However, it has been a lot of hard work, and it was really depressing to only read people's bad experiences on the net, is there anyone out there who's horses have made good recoveries from this type of injury??

the tb that i ride and look after was meant to be finished ridden work for good this time last year because of her injury, she's now back in work and ridden everyday walk , trot, canter, dont know if she'l get too jump again but it wouldnt be my idea of fun jumping her anyway from the stories her owner has told me lol!

My horse has a hock spavin and some yrs ago had a SI strain probably related to that.
He had around a year off(supposed to be box rest but I took the decision to turn him out) and then I began walking work. It took a few months to get back to normal but I can happily say that I have had no subsequent problems at all. I have the physio out around 4 times a yr and she keeps any eye out, but no issues (touch wood!)
good luck.

Damned hard work!!!

You just have to force them to work. But Dozzie was never lame. Just really arsy about going forward and still is. Plus we had lots of bucking. You just have to get the physio on board and work long and low to build up the back muscles. No time off allowed.

I do feel bad at times when i have to insist she moves forward but i know it is for the best in the long run. I suppose the one positive with SI is that stopping isnt an issue!!!

The one thing I really object to is people saying she is just being lazy!

Hi Dozziesmummy

I know you say no time off - but what do you mean .... my mare is just back after having an SI strain and Leahurst said much the same thing - keep her in work once she is back working. We have done 4 weeks of long reining and lunging and I have just got back on her last weekend - walk and trot work and a bit of hacking. We do a Tue, Wed, Thur, Sat and Sun with Mon and Fri off.

However, the weather - as I am sure you already know - is really pantz at the mo and I had to give her last night off - and I am away for the weekend this sat and sun - is it going to have a detrimental effect on her, do you think?

Also, she is happy to go forward in Trot both ridden and lunge and will also canter on the lunge (canter is where we had the bucking problems that alerted us to the problem) (havent tried canter ridden yet - will do this in a few more weeks time) however, her walk is really pantz and lazy (it always was slow) - any ideas how to get her walking on - using her bum ? I am tempted to put my roller spurs on to make her march forward properly - what do you think?

Many thanks
