Can anyone recommend anywhere/any dealer to purchase a "safe/bombproof" horse/pony. Ideally a dealer that would do a 28 day trail or longer as have been stung in the past.

I am a nervous rider due to some nasty accidents and I now want a nice plod to get me back in the saddle.

Mica Woods has some lovely ones in, he doesn't do trials though. Mysafecobs usually have some but often have a waiting list. Also cobs n plods, I have heard good and bad about them.

Have you looked on horses 4 homes? There are some older horses on there for loan that might be suitable

I bought from lia at the cob company and she does a 10 day trial on horses that belong to her (so not on sales livery) We've had horse since March and he's been great, everything we thought he'd be :)

I tend to advertise locally in the Tack shops/Feed Merchants etc. when I need a laid back bombproof/spook proof horse.
One normally turns up but it can take a bit of time.
(Mine have to be capable of being ridden through central London traffic by themselves)

What area are you from? You shouldn't have to travel all round the country to find a suitable horse. Invariably you'll find one within 20 miles or so. The internet has got a lot to answer for having people literally travelling thousands of miles to view horses. Check out tack shop boards, local riding clubs, pony clubs, word of mouth etc & you should be able to find a suitable horse. There are plenty of horses for sale that are not necessarily advertised on the internet. Good Luck

Lia has some appalling feedback! I've never used here but reading this means I wouldn't EVER use her, and having a close call with a horse she had in and was selling as bombproof safe but was actually a rearing, bucking nightmare, I'd be very, very careful!

I went to lia as I heard nothing but praise for her and I liked the look of some of the horses she had in. She gets praise from one of the top vets in the country too. I don't trust these nasty groups on Facebook that basically look like witch hunts. It would be very easy for anyone to become a victim of these cruel bullies.

I can only say good things about my experience with buying a horse from her. We've had him 3 months and he hasn't put a foot wrong. He also passed a five stage vet. im not sure what more can be asked of the horse?

OP- I also put a 'wanted' ad on Facebook and got a few suitable replies and bought two this way, one was a LWVTB so that might suit you instead of a dealer?

Thanks all, I perspnally won't buy from the cob company as of the negative feedback I've heard, I'm sure you're right and she has some amazing horses but it's very much put me off. I'd like to buy from a dealer I think as I've been stung in the past privately, an old horse isn't for me. I've already got a horse that's 24 and was mis sold to me as something that she's not. Sadly she has now had to be retired, it's incredibly depressing watching everyone else rack up and ride off in the sunset when you can't join in :(
