Having watched close call today where a group of cyclist were in woodland when one had an accident. His app gave the location they were in within 10 square ft, so I thought I would look into something similar. Since a livery has episodes of passing out without much notice and we have to try call home no signal
Or in an emergency so googled and found these, do you know anyone suing any of these 5 http://www.techlicious.com/tip/free-personal-safety-apps/

The phone my daughter takes hunting will send a "dead man" alert to a pre set number if jolted during a fall. It then also activates the GPS and broadcasts the phone's location so it can be found. It was actually designed for people working up trees alone but it works just as well on horses. It isn't an app - its a feature built into the phone itself (Its a JCB Tradesman - but there are quite a few "rugged" mobiles which do it.) Plus the phone doesn't break if stood on by a horse, run over by a landrover (yes we tried that one...) or immersed in water.

The closest you can get in an App is the HorseRiderSOS app which seems to do the same thing. But we've not needed it simply because we use the phone instead.

I have to confess - it isn't all that great as a smartphone though - she has a separate one for everyday life!

ooh tell me more about this!

I've got Essex and Herts Air Ambulance app on my phone. Haven't had to use it in an emergency though, thank goodness! It has a call emergency services button which dials 999 and it displays you location grid reference. I'm pretty sure it's not location specific, so would work outside Essex and Hertfordshire.

If you google "Rugged mobile" or "Tough Mobile" you should come up with a load of sites selling durable phones for use in heavy outdoor work. We got into them because my husband is heavily into Land rovers and at one point Landrover produced a rugged mobile phone for the UK market. I think we've had 2 or 3 defender phones over the years. My daughter's current one is a JCB tradesman (Its cheaper and she only uses it for hunting) My husband's current is a Sonim I think. They really are very tough - we've not broken one yet. But obviously the software goes out of date over time as does any phone.

All the ones we have had have a "dead man" alert feature. If it is dropped or jolted beyond its tolerance it sends a message to a pre set number and turns on the GPS if it is not already on. It doesn't dial 999 for you - it relies on the person who received the message doing that if needed. We did get a few false alarms at the beginning and I would hate to bother the emergency services unnecessarily.
