after selling my last horse with all his tack, including my bendy fake-sprenger stirrups. i really liked them as well....

so

now i have a new horse i have bought these-

they are however, very very heavy! to the extent you cant run stirrups up as they just come down again. I also dont have the MH boots, so im not sure im getting the benefit of the treads, hmmm.

does anyone else have these? any reviews of them?

im trying to decide if i should go back to bendy ones... but are they as safe as the MH ones i have that actually break away at the side?

Can't comment on the actual stirrups but I had the treads and boots that matched, fell off and nearly got dragged because my boots were locked into the stirrup... luckily the horse stood still but my instructor had to free my foot from the stirrup, never used the treads again.

No idea re. the ones you have now, but D1 has the Sprenger safety stirrups (bent at the sides), so that's another option?

Watch where you get them from though - the prices have gone a bit mad! Her's came from Irongate/Ingate? Sorry, I forget the exact name! But they were the cheapest - a kind HHO'er put me onto them :D.

Edited to say: Yikes T! So glad that didn't end up a whole lot nastier. Hugs and a hot choccy to you.

I ride in MH boots with bent leg irons.

For a variety of reasons; I've fallen forwards, sideways, been spun dried and bucked off. I have only got tangled once and that was an exception when my left foot got left behind as I went over his left shoulder and into a hedge (sounds worse than it was). This is the only occasion in a year of many falls when single sided safety stirrups would have worked, although they would have made no difference to the outcome of the fall.

I'm more than happy with my irons and I don't think I'd be tempted to ride in anything else.

P.s. My seat and pony have both improved :D

thank you - which sprengers do you have if you dont mind me asking? do you have a link at all?

Sorry, no link (just about to shoot out and am late - as ever lol), but put Sprenger Bow Balance Stirrrups into a Google search. Note: they have blue bits on them :).

I paid about £100 for them I think, but the prices I've just seen on a search are more than that. Try and find, I'm sure it is, Ingatestone and see what their prices are like.

I have the normal Sprenger ones, though might borrow D1's for cross-country/jumping! :D

I have the MH irons with the tread but also not the MH Boots to match and i agree about the weight but i love them.
Even without the matching boots i find these irons keep my foot in the right place due to the angle of the treads.
The safety aspect of them are great. My friend was jumping my horse and came off and the hose part of he stirrup came off and stopped her being dragged. I also feel more confident that if i did fall they work - I'm a bit paranoid about getting my foot trapped!!!
I recommend them :D
