Well, we finally went really green and rode the couple of miles to the village shop. Not the BEST day to pick our way down the lanes as the wind is still pretty boisterous so Saff's gait was a close approximation of a pogo stick most of the way and the traffic (infrequent but either ghastlyrattling, banging tractors and trailers or spotty youths razzing up their trashed, ancient white peugeot 205s)couldn't be heard above the wind until right on top of us. She was very good outside the shop..nowhere to tie up so I stuck my head in the door and just about managed to stop her barging in!!! Shopkeeper was great...did my shopping, took my money, helped me stow in Shires saddlebags( need bigger ones!!). Saff was slightly freaked by these when full but behaved very well in the breezy circs. Feel very virtuous plus she manured a verge...and cheered an old boy up who seemed to get a huge amount of pleasure from giving Saff a pat. I declined the same treatment!

Well done! I always think I would like to do things like ride to the shop instead of driving, if only there were tie up points and I trusted people enough not to think the horse would be stolen!

Your pony looks like mine! Mine's a Welsh D, 14.2 hh and round the girth despite masses of work and 99% fibre diet!
Must master the upload photo thing so can show the rest..the Intl grade A, Grade A speed, wizzy pc po and Adv eventer...would not have hacked to the shop on any of them for anything!!

What a lovely thing to do! When I was a wee tot I used to ride to the local shop to stock up on sherbert lemons - kept the curtain twitchers entertained!

I read a story a while ago about a lady who takes her kids to school on horseback, three of them I think. Heaven knows how she manages to steer 3 ponies home from on top of her own horse...

i used to take a young racehorse to the local shop, even put some baler twine on the gate at the side of the shop and she'd stand quite happy whilst i did my shopping. i used to carry everything in a back pack.
amazing horse, could do anything with her and she never blinked. so when she wasn't out winning races (or at least trying, she won a few) she could often be found standing like a donkey outside the shop. she was a chestnut mare too.
i was a proud mum as i did her from unbroken right through to her 1st 3 races.

going by checking her out on the racing post website she is still with the people who bred her and raced her.
so she might be a broodmare now as she hasn't raced for a few years.
i left the yard on bad terms, very long story but i was being bullied by the 1 other employee there, who happened to be the manager and who i'd happened to have had a relationship with,as i ended th relationship he decided to make my life hell, 1 day we had a major bust up, he sacked me then told my boss i was refusing to work.(it was a secret relationship so our boss never knew, he felt our boss would've sacked us) so i was given 2 days to clear out and my boss refused to hear me out.
so lets just say i didn't keep in touch with anyone at that yard after that. and thats the very short version
