She came throught the op fine and the surgeon is pleased with how it went. I did ask if they would like to keep her for the next 8 weeks...he politely declined!!
That's the good news, all being well tonght she'll be home tomorrow morning.
Bad news....the other cruciate is basically knackered and will need doing before too long. :(
As for her near elbow, she has dysplasia (which I knew about) and it's not looking good at all. She also has arthritis in it and will probabaly need some surgery on that. :(:(
So one legged dog anyone?

Oh bless her, poor girl. What age is she?

I know little about the cruciate ligament thingy, can it be screened for, like elbow and hip dysplasia?

I notice a lot of people with rotts and boxers talking about it, are certain breeds prone to it?

Would be great if there was some way owners and dogs like yourselves could be spared this sort of thing :(

Aaw poor Sage. Hopefully the fact that the one cruciate is fixed now will take some of the strain off the other legs. Fingers crossed she is home tomorrow, and the recovery period is not too stressful for you both.

She's only 4 but she is a full on dog. She hoons around constantly.
Not too sure about boxers but rottiies are prone to cruciate problems. As far as I know they can't be screened for it. It is just one of those things. When Dex had his done I did ask if Sage would be likely to have the same problem as she is his full sister. Surgeon said only because she is a rotty. So it's just sod's law that she is having the same problem.
Damned purebreds. I thank the Lord for good insurance!! :D

Glad her op went well. Agree it should hopefully take some of the strain off her other leg once weight bearing.

If she's partial to a bit of hooning, that's great as shows she's feeling well in herself but will obviously not help with joint impact.

Very glad she went through the op OK :):):):):) Not so good about the other bits, but I am sure the op will help her as the others have said, so will keep fingers crossed for a full and quick recovery :):):)

Hey SU, did you have a good holiday? We are having a few issues with the wound so she's having to wear a buster collar which she hates. I finally relented and took it off while I was around to watch her but had to put it on again for the night. Cue one very sleepless night for me which involved lots of Sage beating me up with said collar and crying pitifully until I hung an arm out of bed and stroked her.... and stroked her......and stroked her, well you get the idea. :D

Hmmm......sounds like she is being a drama queen and milking it for all the attention she can get!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D:D My old spangle was just like that! :D I always give mine arnica and aloe vera juice with their feed to help them heal quicker (doesn't interfere with antibiotics or painkillers etc) and a magnetic collar. All helps to heal things.:)

Had a fab holiday thankies - week on the beach in Spain!:D:D:D
