You won't find a first horse for 2k sorry you need to up your budget.
Also I wouldn't worry about colour just temperament.

A good horse is never a bad colour.

I’ve had 2 greys, pain in the arse to keep clean and associated with melanoma.
that being said if my perfect horse, perfect price came along and was grey I’d still buy!

£2k will buy you a project at best at the moment x
Depends what you want from your first horse; that kind of dictates the price. something that’s sane, sound, good conformation, reasonably well schooled and can pop a jump (so not even an absolute true all rounder, more a nice hack with perks) is about £5/6k according what I’ve been looking at recently.

thank you thats really helpful. i did read about the melanoma association and that it can cause issues. I would like grey but to be honest i would like any colour i think ill add a few grand on in that case. The main reason i was asking at a lower price is that the more expensive horses seem a bit over and above in terms of ability and are probably expected to be showing or jumping etc whereas i am just looking for a calm and happy hacker preferably a bit older (dont want to bite off more than i can chew with my first horse)xx and also dont want to waste the ability of the high flyers if that makes sense.

i am an experienced rider but i would not be going down the showing and competition route.

yes makes total sense, however you are looking at a seriously competitive area of the market hence why they aren’t “cheap”
everyone and their dog wants something that’s “nice, safe that can do a bit of everything to a reasonable standard”

if you are wanting something to pootle around the lanes on, would you consider loan of something that’s needing a quieter life but could do with staying in light work.

would you want to attend lessons, clinics, fun rides?
That’s all work that you need to consider if the horse is up to. Even if not competing it’s still work x
