Sales livery - can anyone recommend one please?

Sadly I’ve got to sell my lad because we’ve lost the use of our field as of the end of this week. I didn’t get much notice - it was sold yesterday - and there’s a high demand for livery places locally, so I haven’t been able to find anywhere else to go in such a short timeframe. (Still looking but it’s not promising.)

The only option I can see is booking or hiring the earliest available transport and putting him on sales livery somewhere, probably in the Glasgow area but beggars can’t be choosers so if it has to be further afield then I’ll go with that.

Please does anyone have any recommendations? He’s a native type, no special talents but a genuinely nice chap.

I am so sorry you are in this situation.

I can't help with a sales livery as I am very far south but having sold through sales livery very successfully and having had friends that have sold through sales livery very disastrously please be aware of the implications. Sales livery is great and I recommend it from my experience but you, as the owner, are liable for any misrepresentations made by the seller.

Ensure you have provided full details of the horse and that these details are shared with any purchaser, including any quirks or illness/injury. In the case of my friend, the person selling the horse told various untruths and my friends ended up having to refund the purchase price of the horse. My friends's only recourse was to pursue the sales livery through court which was just not emotionally or financially possible for her and she lost both horse and money.

That’s excellent information and very helpful - thanks so much. I have no experience of sales livery so it’s really useful to hear how it’s worked for you. I really appreciate it.

Is East Ayrshire too far out for you? Have one of my own on sales livery in that area at the moment.
It’s a long way away but tbh I’ll consider anything right now. I’m really struggling to arrange transport at such short notice too so at this rate we’re going to end up trying to convert my husband’s workshop into a stable ? (it’s the only option within hacking distance)

Miles away, but if you've got the type he tends to look for Luke Boardman would likely arrange transport etc. Hes usually looking for nice geldings rideable for amateurs good enough for a bit of stressage

What are are you in? PM if you prefer but I have a couple of glasgow based friends and they are up on lots of yards.

If you are considering sales livery then I would contact Avonmill Equestrian in Denny. She has a waiting list of clients and I'd happily keep a horse on her yard, it's really well run and horses are very well looked after

No retirement type livery you can get him to ?
Not that I’ve found - even just turning him away would be better than selling, but I’ve not even managed to find a corner of a field for him. I’ve widened my search to up to 50 miles away and am hoping that something will turn up.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I will do some further exploration to see if there are any specific retirement liveries around here.

Do you actually want to sell your horse, or is is just that you think sales livery is your only option? I am just wondering if anybody on here can help you to find somewhere else to keep the horse, if that's what you would prefer.
No, I really don’t. It’s just that I’ve got 4 days to find a livery place and arrange transport, and it seems next to impossible. Even sorting out a sales livery (and transport to it) is not looking do-able.

I’m hoping that by expanding my search area I’ll find *something*, even if it’s a temporary something with a big commute.

Thanks so much for replying x

Have you been able to speak to the new owners of the field to ask if you can stay for a bit longer, explaining the problems that you are having finding somewhere else so quickly?

I am sorry that I can't help, we are too far away to be of any use but if I were you I would ask if anyone knows of a space anywhere near you, rather than asking about sales livery. HHO'ers are a very helpful lot and may well be able to find you at least temporary accommodation for your horse
That’s so kind of you to think like that. I’m looking through the regional threads for my area to try to find people local to me, who might know of somewhere I could camp out until I can find a more permanent solution.

Thanks for suggesting this - I have considered it, but the landowner wants it vacant now and I don’t think I’m going to get the chance to find out who the incoming landowners are.

https://www.freeads.co.uk/uk/buy-se...-glenboig-north-lanarkshire/view#.X3zgjlVKjIU This advert is 14 weeks old but they also advertised 30 and 68 weeks ago so may be worthy a try in case they have space now
Oh, it looks nice - it’s so far away I’d have to set off in the middle of the night to do morning turnout, though! But it’s so kind of you to look out the advert - thank you x

I’m going to go and look at the advert a few more times to keep my spirits up about finding somewhere x

This, you'd be welcome with me but I'm on the South Coast! Surely you cannot legally be expected to move so quickly? If you pay rent monthly, is it not the case that you have to be given a month's notice? So sorry you are in this situation, hope you find somewhere without having to sell.

I know it’s a long shot but have you asked your vet for any help? It’s just that they know all the local yards and horse establishments and may have some ideas which could help. I would visit all the horse places near you, not just livery yards, racing stables, private yards and someone might help. I would help if you came to my yard but I m in the South so no good. I hope you manage to find somewhere

Thank you so much to everyone who’s kindly offered advice.

Unfortunately it was a trust-based “contract” so the reality is that landowner can ask me to leave with no notice.

I’m not on Facebook, this is one of those times when I see how useful it could be!

I’ll try local vets and drive round feed merchants, riding schools, anywhere there’s a horse in a field. I’ll also need to find a transporter who can work at 48hrs notice - I don’t have my own and AFAIK there’s no trailer or box hire within 3 hours’ drive of me.

Fingers crossed today brings a way forward
