Trying again...
I got my horse about 6 months ago. He was quiet and sensible when I went to view him as a fun alrounder. When I got him home he was bolshy, bargy and dominent even running my instrucotr down once when she was helping me with him. I then found out that the lady I bought him from had used a chifney on him when she first bought him! He settled down and is now much better to handle but still has his argumentative moments. I've hacked him out with a friend but have been a little bit scuppered by the weather, dark nights, lack of a school etc. but have been trying to crack on with taking him out alone recently as he lives with one other pony at my parents' house ans there isn't always someone to hack out with.
He can be very nappy and this consists of him planting and refusing to move in any direction forwards, backwards, sideways or in circles but using the rope halter I use under his bridle and a lunge rope, once I have got off I have always been able to make him go. Recently I've been able to get him to move without getting off and thought I'd made a breakthrough.
Tonight I rode him from home and it took 30mins to get about 10mins down the road. I got off him at this point as I was knackered and having got him to move after another nappy moment it seemed a good idea. As soon as I'd got off two motorbikes came towards us, the first one passed but as the second approached my horse span round and bolted for home along the road. I got back home and led him back along the lane a little way turned round and took him home. He was fine, not wound up or upset in the slightest. I've been putting up with his attitude while he's done nothing really horrid when out and about but every ride is hard work as he always argues and tonight was the last straw. I just keep thinking what if I'd been on him as I really don't think he'd have stopped, what if a car had come along and what happens if I continue and meet the motorbikes again.
So my question is does anyone know of any sales livery places/ dealers in the NW that might take him on? I think with the right person he'll be a lovely horse.
BTW he has has back checked, teeth done, new saddle, is turned out 24/7 and gets no hard feed.
