Happy new year to everyone
I had always understood that a small amount of froth (lipstick
) when working your horse is a good sign, and excessive dribbling over the chest /legs is a bad sign. I also understood that if your working on the right rein, then froth would show on the left, and vice versa.
Firstly, please correct me if I'm understanding things wrong!
Now question is - my mare has always been quite dry in the mouth. She is a good natured, but very tense and worrisome type. I've recently changed a few things with my riding, including a new saddle. Bridle and bit are the same. She has started to foam very slightly when I'm asking her to work over her back, no dribbling or anything excessive, just a small amount around her lips.
BUT she nearly always just foams on the left hand side. Now due to weather / time of year, we are hacking, but I do ask for her to work while we are hacking, including shortening and lengthening of stride, transitions and lateral work. Yesterday she did get a little foam on the right hand side, but still more on th left.
She's in a gfs comfort bridle (has a crank noseband, but this is on the loosest hole) and a NS starter bit. She's been in the NS bit for a couple of years, and I'm wondering whether a cha be of bit is needed.
Any ideas please??
