hi wondering if anyone has had a horse with salmonellosis i have a wee fily 9 months old who was very sick last week vet was called and started treating it for pnumonia she got worse called the vet again they then said it was ulcers started treating it for ulcers and it got worse called the vet again and now tey are saying it could be salmoneloisis but it can take up to 21 poop samples to diagnois it by then it could die. would appreciate any info if anyone has had a horse with this thanks

What symptoms has she got? I'd post this in breeding cos there are lots of breeders in there who may have had a similar experience.
Fingers crossed for you.

she has severe diaorrea and her bum turns inside out and looks like a huge flower when she is pooing. she will not eat forage she grinds her teeth and licks the walls she has obviously lost a lot of weight and spends alot of time laid down vet came today and gave her some buscapan and flunixon.

i had a mare who developed salmonellosis after colic sugery. she was at leahurst (liverpool vet hospital) at the time and they put her straight into isolation as it's very serious. if you or your vet suspect that this could be what's up with your filly then you need to make sure that she doesn't come into contact with others and that you disinfect yourself after touching her as it's contagious. we had to have a footbath outside my mare's box for anyone going in or out and all bedding removed after mucking out was burnt

thanks for that but this morning she had a rectum prolapse so we arent veryhopefull she will last today but the vets are doing all they can
