1, Is it a good idea?

Mine gets very sweaty so i thought i would add some.

2, At what rate do you feed?

He's 15.3 L/W

Give him a salt block,they will take what they require,however you could go down the electrolyte route if he sweats excessively!!
 
You can make your own home made electrolytes by mixing normal salt with lo salt in a 2:1 ratio (doesnt have to be exact).

Saves a fortune

I would give an ounce a day, 2 if he sweats a lot.
 
Get him one of those lovely natural Himaliyan salt blocks, they are mined from rocks millions of years old and are packed full of trace elements and minerals, my horses LOVE them, the pinker the better (more minerals!)
