You can give horses the salt we eat, alot of people seem to mix lo-salt and salt together. I have never heard of that specification on the back of a feed bag before, but i only feed happy hoof plus supplements, dont know sorry, but you can add salt no probs, safe to do so

Salt is not added to feeds by manufacturers as it is hygroscopic (sp?) and would attract moisture into the product. This is what I was told by a Spillers advisor, anyway. So, you have to add your own. Normal table or cheaper cooking salt is what I have always used, at a good shake per feed - not very scientific. The other ponies who use their salt licks don't have any extra in their feed.

We buy the bags of lump rock salt which the horses seem to reaaly like.
Mine wont each a pressed salt lick.
I personally dont like the idea of putting it in the feed as they may not need it.

Yeah that's right about why they don't include it but they do include all of the other electrolytes which is why buying a tub of them is such a rip off! I couldn't believe it when spillers told me this, thought it was really honest of the as this was when they were still making resorb, maybe that's why they've stopped making it?

If your horse is working hard and sweating you should add 2 parts table salt to 1 part low salt the day before to give the correct balance but for everyday a table spoon of normal salt is fine
