How much salt should a 14.3hh horse have in its diet? Do you think it's better putting salt in his diet or just giving him a salt lick?

Also in summer he lives out so won't be able to get a salt lick so should I put salt in his meals, how much? He will be more sweaty in summer as well

Is there a type of salt like electrolytes or can you use salt that we use to cook with etc.?

Thank you ;)

A tabelspoon of ordinary salt in his feed will do him just fine. Not all horses will use a salt lick - I know mine don't

Mine get up to 70g (between 50-70 depending on work load) salt per day as well as loose salt in a bin in their paddock, works really with for grass sillyness. They will eat loose salt easier than a lick.

I use iodised table salt in their feeds to balance the deit and uniodised in the paddock.
