. Much more advice and explanation offered by this vet though both really I guess said the same thing, just was more convinced by this vet...

Anyway, Going to blood test him on Tuesday for Cushings and Insulin resistance.. Should be interesting hunger and Sam do NOT go together, should think vet will be killed or at least maimed or fatally injured!!!

Then has to go back in 2 weeks for more xrays to compare with first set done in beginning of July....

Also wants to take some different views of the keratoma in his near fore....

At least I know this could take 6 months to sort and wants farrier to do something with his feet even thought the toe has been cut back and equipak fitted.

I feel the first vet felt I was wasting his time especially the first time he said nothing was wrong and basically i was neurotic.... Perhaps I was just too worried the first time and hadnt really listened.

Anyway Sam has waved another sick note in front of me, till Aug 18th when we go for xrays then no doubt will present me with another...

So much for broken horses, eh???

This winds me up so much. You are not neurotic, you care about your horse who is ill. Stick with the new vet. Vets like the first one you mention aren't fit to take money to treat sick animals.

Best of luck with Samuel, I'm sure he'll be fine with patience and a vet who shows interest.

have you put him on pernamax!

my vet was trialling it when my pony got lami last year he was trying it for joints but he had used it on two ponys before mine with lami with fantastic results as it reduces the inflamation in the laminae in the foot.

i put twinkle on it and she was sound within two weeks she had rotation in both fronts and had lami in both back feet aswel.
she is ir/cushings.

i used pernamax for joints but think maxavita the place that makes pernamax have bout a new product out just for lami think its called lami smooth i now keep it in my tackroom and put her on it if she gets signs of lami for a week or so!
heres website
http://www.maxavita.com/products/pet/pernamaxequine/

lamintis is the worst thing ever i hate it!

good luck with your boy bless him wish him a speedy recovery

thankyou very much, will take a look,
Just been looking on the metabolic horse website that says Glucosamine can cause insulin resistance. My god, have i made my boy worse with kindness...........
Feel so guilty......

Have to say, having seen how thinned down he is and the fact he's off grass - the lami is very odd unless he is heading down the cushings route with the lots of peeing bit too.

So odd, knowing him before and how much of a grumpy wee bugger he was - to see how happy he is now which again is totally at odds with him being "poorly" as he doesn't look it!

Hope they get to the bottom of it soon for both your sakes. When is blood test again?

tomorrow morning 8am. God help Phil.

Should be headlines of national newspapers tomorrow, 'Vet maimed by hungry horse!'

What blood tests are you having and will there be any other tests? ... I know that Motor will have to be starved for 4 hours before this blood test for his 'Laminitis Risk Assessment' but I have never been asked to starve him before

I'll reply for her as she'll be en-route to the vets as we speak, so fingers crossed she gets to the bottom of it - and actually fingers crossed Sam hasn't eaten her as he was starved overnight, the poor love!

They are trying a blood test for cushings and for insulin resistance I think. She doesn't want the full cushings test as that involves steriods that could cause a bad lami attack.
