Having the same problem now and throughout the winter while feeding my old pony. She is very wet behind...so much so I have having to wash her tail all the time. I feed her top spec balancer, with vits and mins supplements and an old pony balancer supplement and chaff. In the winter I feed her old faithful too - allen and page which is brill.
I am wondering due to me already feeding her the top spec I dont really need the balancer supplement. I tend to only add a little to the feed anyhow. She is wormed each season as well so I know that is not a problem.

Im not too sure what to add to her feed to help her out really. I have only been feeding her the top spec for 4 months this year and was advised that this would help her out and she is looking less stiff, happy and her coat is in really good condition so I do not want to stop feeding her this unless I have to.
Any advice would be brill....what is the pink powder..?

when you say wet behind do you mean that she is skitterish? How old is she?

Some horses have zero tolerance to sugar content such as molasses, do you feed her a moassed chaff?

If she is continually skettery I would want the vet to do some fecal samples just to be on the safe side that something more serious isn't going on...

My old mare is a bit 'loose' although it isn't usually diarrhoeal. I give her Probiotics in the form of Protexin which seems to help, as does lots of fibre.
If you are old fashioned, you could add dry bran to the feed as it absorbs water from the gut and helps. Sugar beet also seems to help a bit.
Don't know what you meant by 'wormed each season' but maybe you could be extra careful with worming for Tapeworm and small redworm in the autumn and spring?

My gelding gets a bit like this when he gets stressed or when he goes onto new grass. I've tried all sorts and the only supplement I've found that actually works is the Digest Plus one, made by Baileys I think. Sorts him out within a couple of days.

It's a prebiotic rather than probiotic. Might be worth a try. NAF PP did nothing at all, don't rate any of NAF's products. I had to order the Baileys stuff off the internet as couldn't find anywhere locally that sold it.

thanks everyone - I did try the baileys one so I might have another go with it. I stuggled to find it as well. I do feed molassed chaff so again might just stop using the molassed as that might be upsetting her. Yep worming wise, I do worm for the tapeworm and redworm twice a year too.
thanks for the great advice :0)

there's a charcoal powder you can get from the vets (well, it looks like charcoal powder, and is something like it) which cures diarrhoea.
umm, are you feeding her carrots? one of my horses couldn't cope with more than one or two a day, any more invariably gave him terrible runs.
also, some horses can't cope with haylage, cos of the acidity. just another idea.

my old boy use to be the same until i started feeding him spillers senior conditioning which has yeast something in and that seem to of stopped his problem
