It's been a long day!
Vets arrived and took x-rays this morning although I wasn't allowed anywhere near due to being pregnant. Apparently he stood as good as gold
They took LOADS from lots of different angles focusing on the small area of the knee they thought to be the site of the injury (it is kind of at the front of the knee almost on the inside).
Then long wait for call as they had to develop the pictures and have a good look at them.
The good news is that there is nothing displaced, nothing majorly broken. The bad news is that the piece of bone they were most concerned about did not appear as it should- although they can't make out the specific break yet there is something there and they think further x-rays taken in a few days will reveal it (the injury was only 3 days ago- apparently the clearest x-rays can not be taken until 10 days after the injury).
So, he is being admitted to horspital on Wednesday for more x-rays and soft tissue scans etc. They are also concerned about damage to his shoulder as the gait he is hobbling with is giving them cause for concern and swelling at the top of his leg is really terrible.
He still seems bright and comfortable though; I took him off the sedalin today and he wasn't any different without it. He is being a fantastic patient so far, amazed us all with how well he is coping with everything.
I have hardly slept since Friday, I think I will finally catch up on some sleep tonight now I know that although it is still serious, we are almost certainly not looking at the worst case scenario, and even surgery looks unlikely. There seem to be so many stories about horses making a full recovery from all kinds of leg fractures so I am feeling really positive.
Thanks for all your hugs and vibes xxx
