I'm just looking for a few ideas to go armed with when I go and tackle yard owner

The outdoor sandschool at my yard has been getting deeper and deeper to ride in over the past few years. It is just a silica sand surface with good drainage and is maintained reasonably well.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can prevent it from becoming deep? Is there anything than can be added to the sand to improve the surface?

Many thanks

Don't know about things to add to the sand but I found watering the school at my yard kept it a lot better. Now it's older & bedded in more it's less of a problem but for the first couple of years if it dried out it became so deep I wouldn't ride in it.

yes you can add fibre which gets rotovated into the sand and stabilises it. They need a four by four or lawn tractor to tow their rotovator machine.
I do wonder though it your sand has broken down and needs replacing, or if the drains could be blocked.
Dig down into itto see how deep the actual sand is, it may be you can remove some of it anywy which will make it less deep.
You find the fibre stuff via adverts in H and H, I seem to think Equestrian Surfaces were the folk who advised us about an unstable surface.

Thank you for replying. I feel it has probably broken down and needs some sever tlc. The school is around 14 years old and I doubt it was the best quality sand that was used

This is the deepest I've ever known it to get and I'm concerned that we still have a long way of summer to go yet. Watering should be ok, but we have had enough rain over the winter, that it should be ok.....but its as dry as a bone
