Hi all,

I currently have a horse on loan from a friend, and id love to do a hunt or two with him before he returns home. Although he's placid usually, his 'real' mum says he was hunted in Ireland in his younger years and is really strong out with big groups of horses. He's a big boy and I dont want to be completely out of control so i'd like to try doing a fun ride before I agree to go hunting incase he turns out to be way too strong!

The only problem is, I have no transport, and nobody on the yard does either. I live very local to the hunt, im actually in Sandhurst and horse (Earl) lives 5 mins away at a little yard on the Yateley/Eversley border.

Im wondering if anyone will be going to the fun rides in August and October and would be able to give me a lift? Earl is a 16.1hh fleabitten grey gelding, a young 19 years old this year. Well behaved, pretty sure he travels fine. Would obviously re-imburse for travel expense etc.

Any help/advice appreciated :)

Sam

Hi

The hunt ride in Aug will be a totally different ride to the fun ride in October.
The BBQ ride involves everyone meeting and then riding together....
The fun ride in October is a pre set course, where small groups set off at different times, at their own pace..
On both rides jumping is optional...
Please p.m me for more i may be able to help...

last yr's august ride consisted of 2 big groups - one went at basically hunting pace - it was like a short hunt without hounds (ie - fast!) and the other went for a more leisurely group ride around the forest.

the fun ride is like any normal sponsored ride - small groups with set times.

cant help with transport though sorry.

My horse used to be stabled next to Earl, and I move him to his new home at the end of last year :-)

Having been on hound exercise last year, and the fun ride, and a couple of hunts I would fully recommend the Sandhurst, they are a great hunt.

However, for the hunting you will need Earl to be very fit, and it could well blow his mind, I dont think he has done anything like this for quite a while.

As Star says, the hound exercise is more akin to hunting, as you have the hounds and progress at the Master's pace, but it isn;t as fast or as long.

edited to add: Earl travelled fine in my lorry, (dont have room for to take him again though as I will be going with my friend)
