It now says it's Alfalfa free on the bag. Just adding it in case anyone else finds this post whilst searching.
Its extra calories so that can always have an effect on horses energy levels but so far so good with mine.

I feed it, it isnt my first choice, but it is alfa free, low sugar, low enough starch, high enough protein and DE and my horse eats it, and it is provided within my livery. If I was buying from scratch I'd prefer Copra / something soya free. (I am looking for decent calories, decent protein, for a fully clipped, fairly hard working, out at night, horse).

Look at RedMills cubes. They do a wide variety and specialise in high quality protein, low starch cubes of differing levels of protein.

have you looked at sainfoin?

specifically thinking the simple systems pellets, not sure what other brands/companies make it
Sainfoin Pellets - Premium forage alternative to lucerne and grass, rich in natural<br> minerals and trace elements. (simplesystemhorsefeeds.co.uk)
