Has any body had a horse with a sarcoid on the cannon bone? It seems unlikely to me but when I was grooming Jesse I suddenly saw blood dripping down his leg. I gave it a good cleaned with salt water much to Jesse's disgust - it must of been quite painful for Jesse to be upset by this. Now I tried to have a good look, especting the worlds deepest hole (this is jesse!!) but it was like a small lump, about the size of my nail, with blood coming from a few points. It looked more like something thats burst then a cut. Infact it looked worringly like a fibroblastic scaroid.

The other day I noticed Jesse had this little hard lump on his hind leg, it felt like a tiny splint but it was on the outside, not really big enough to see. Anyway I didn't think much of a boney type bump on the baby that attracts trouble!! Especaily with the hard groun. However now I'm thinking that there was a lump and now it's burst. Infact I might of burst it while grooming him

He's competely sound just alittle bit kicky when touching that leg. Jesse's got another little bumby wart like sarcoid suspecty thing on his neck which I've been keeping a very watchful eye on. It's not changed over two od months. I'm thinking see what this leg does, Jesse is a super quick healer, and get the vet out to look at both if it deosn't heal like a simple cut.

Anyway does it sound unlikly to have a sarcoid on the cannon like this? Any ideas?

Can't answer your question, sorry ...but just read the banana post and wondered .......some of the sarcoids, they're suspected to be associated with a virus, a bit like warts aren't they? ...and one of the treatments for (human) verruccas is apparently to stick a small bit of banana skin over the verrucca on to the foot with some Duck Tape, so it's completely covered and airless and by the time the Duck Tape has come unstuck a week or so later and comes off it's apparently killed the verrucca off. Now I wonder..... with those surplus banana skins...?

If you suspect it's a sarcoid, be VERY cautious about what you slap on it, rub in it or tie to it. True sarcoids are skin cancers and you need to keep well away from anything that says something like "encourages new skin/hair growth", including tea tree and/or arnica cream/shampoo/gel. Ask yourself, if you were diagnosed with a suspicious lump on your arm, that could be skin cancer, would you cross your fingers and tie a banana skin to it??? Is your ned a youngster? Before youngsters' immune systems are fully developed they often develop a startling crop of warts. Odd place though, on the legs. If it was me, I'd get the vet out for a definitive diagnosis. Either way, if it's bleeding it could get infected x

Good point, hadn't thought of that - I was just musing as daughter has a persistent wart on her toe that freezing hasn't worked and was debating what to do next and someone suggested banana skin.
I agree get vet to look, hope it's nothing too serious.

Thanks for the advice on avoiding new growth encouraging products. I just put an anti bactric cream on after cleaning it with salt water to prevent infections but I'll avoid anything else. The more I think about it the more I think worry it is a sacroid... Earlier in the year Jesse did a brilliant job of taking a chunk out of his leg, getting it completely minging, rotting and infected and needing months on box rest in full bandage. This new cut is just below the old scar for from that injury and may have been damaged as some of the skin was from the bandage. I know sarcoids can come from trumatisted skin. I'll see what it looks like today. I think it would of gone one way or the other. Jesse is three; I've heard of these baby warts but never actually had any with them nor seen any. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
