My horse had a Verrucous sarcoid (pea sized wart-like lump) removed by liquid nitrogen from her girth area 3 weeks ago. It healed from within and dropped off as expected after 2 weeks. The area is now covered in a 2 inch scab which looks saw. The vet has said there is no need to put anything on it but I have been putting sudocrem on daily to help stop it itching as the scab dry’s and cracks.

I wondered if anyone else has experienced this and can share their experience of recovery or recommend anything better than sudocrem for healing? Im worried the skin won’t recover enough on its own. She is under veterinary care and has been re-examined 3 times since the procedure to ensure her wellbeing.

I think I would leave it well alone tbh, especially if that's what the vet told you to do.....my gelding had a sarcoid frozen off a couple of years ago, and I can't remember putting anything on the wound after.

Mine needed a second treatment but been fine since. Sorry can't remember the time frame between the first and second application of the cryotherapy but wasn't long. was told in advance may need several treatments?

The second scab has fallen off now (4 weeks after the Cryotherapy) and the pink soft skin is exposed. There is a bump where the sarcoid was but the vet has said we will have to wait until the skin is completely healed (approx. another 4 weeks) before we will know if the cryotherapy was totally successful, so fingers crossed!

If other people are reading this for info the Cryotherapy treatment including sedation cost me £100 (not including a call-out) well worth it if it works!

I have also used Bloodroot cream for a totally separate sarcoid and had very positive results, although it wasn't very pleasant for the horse to have it administered.

mine had this (plus liverpool-like cream for a carcinoma on his penis..

It did look very sore for a while but I left alone and apart from loosing it's colour healed fine and smooth ;)
