sarcoid help

my horse has a sarcoid on the hair line on his chest one just before the girth goes and on on his sheath which is small they are all small the ones one his chest and before his girth is flat, has anyone used sarc ex and did it work?i have just put him on it as i had a few people say its good but also what is best to paint on them aswell,i dont realy know much about them i have never had a horse with them,i asked the vet what causes them and he said no one realy knows

Sarcoids are a real pain no one knows what causes them some horses are just more inclined to get them than other could be something in the ground or flies. I tried sarcx was as about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. In the end i had to get the vet and used the Liverpool cream that worked well for mine. Some have had good results from Thuja cream and some from stuff called bloodroot. I think it is the usual case of what works for some does not work for others. Dont let them get big and ask the vet if they are small enough he could freeze them off.

I thought they were viral and that flies spread them...... thats what my vet told me anyway..... he said to always use a flymask in the summer if there is any chance that a horse on the yard has them, as the flies can somehow transmit them..... maybe from one place to another onthe same animal???

Merlin has a couple of suspect patches between his front legs, in four years they have never worsened and you would actually not know they are there, but when i asked vet he said better safe than sorry and that the area round the eyes being almost bald is a classic place for them to travel to!!

Don't worry too much, my pony had a sarcoid above his eye, right on the eyelid. We thought about getting it removed but because it was so close to his eye we couldn't use creams or anything like that, surgery was the only option, but it was going to cost us a fortune, so as it wasn't really bothering him and it was just a cosmetic issue we decided to just leave it. Then one day he came in from the field and it had just dropped off, to this day, 5 years on it has not returned!!
If you are having problems though, I would suggest speaking to your vet about using rubber bands, these seem to have been successful in most cases I have heard of.

My TB mare got a couple of sarcoids on her chest area when she was about 3. Had cryotherapy initially. One appeared to die but the other stayed. Then the first one came back. At this point my vet took some photographs of the sarcoids and sent them up to Liverpool University and they promptly sent back an appropriate cream for the vet to apply. Amazingly it worked. The 'Liverpool Creams' have have a super track record treating sarcoids this way. Might be worth asking your vet about it. Certainly was the easiest route in erradicating the dratted things.
