Big shire lad on our yard has a number of sarcoids. Owner has had a couple treated before via her insurance but it is obviously now invalid for sarcoid treatments.

He now has one growing on the corner of his eye. It has grown alot recently although I dont think it is impairing his vision. Obviously it needs treating but I am wondering if anyone has any ideas of costs involved?

Also, I believe they are treated differently to normal sarcoids (as in Liverpool Cream) and they are injected?

Any experiences of sarcoids around eye area would be appreciated too.

my 3 year old had one in corner of his eye. I sent photos to Derek Knottenbelt at Liverpool and he suggested a course of BCG. (can't use Liverpool cream near eye)t he human BCG vaccine is injected directly into the sarcoid. this cost about 1000 (he had 8 or so injections). BCG didn't work for my boy. Next stage was a costly trip to Liverpool for radiation treatment (about 3500) radioactive wires are threaded through the sarcoid he was in Liverpool for 2 weeks. Almost a year later and it all looks fab, will go and dig out some photos

I had a mare with a sarcoid in the corner of her eye. Camrosa got rid of it completely. My vet was sceptical, but mare was in foal at the time and she said it wouldn't do any harm. It certainly didn't work immediately, but when it DID, the effects were quite noticeable.

Mine had 3 perioccular nodular sarcoids on her eye lid. She was treated with BCG vaccine at a nearby Vet Hospital.

She had a total of 8 treatments over a period of about 6 months I think it was. She had to go the first week, then the next week, then 2 weeks later, then 3 weeks, 4 week etc until the 8 treatments were given.

Each time she had to go to the Horsepital (hour and bit each way) because the risk of anaphylaxsis increases with each treatment, and obviously they had the best equipment to deal with it if it happened (never did thank god!).

The treatment was completely successful although rather expensive (uninsured).

Thats was about 4 years ago, and there has been no reoccurance.

My boy had a small sarcoid on the corner of his eye when he was a 4 year old- he went to Liphook and was operated on by Tim Phillips who removed it. Although they say there is a risk of sarcoids coming back when they have been sugically removed, it has not (touch wood) come back. He has had another small sarcoid in a different area removed as well(although he did not need a full general anaesthetic that time).

My mare had a sarcoid grow on the inside of her eyelid which was growing towards her eye, she went to Rossdales where Richard Payne removed it and she is fine never had a problem since!

there is an injection, which is actually a cattle vaccine (uif I remember correctly) and it works really well, just a short course of injections, and boom! sorted!

not sure of cost I am afraid, its a bugger when insurance companies take off what you need treated!

One of my Arab mares came to me with 2 sarcoids between her front legs and 1 at the corner of her eye.

She was treated homeopathically, it took about 3 months but all 3 went and have not come back.
