Sarcoid on eye

I've got a pony on loan who has a sarcoid just above one eye. She's had others removed but I believe the vet wasn't keen to do this one because of it's location. It hasn't changed shape or size in the year she's been with me and looked fine all winter.

I'm finding since the weather has gotten hotter and there are more flies about it's hard to protect it. She is rubbing her face and making it bleed. The sarcoid itself doesn't seem to bother her but if it does bleed then she gets more flies which annoys her more. She has been wearing a fly mask but I think this is part of the problem as the mesh rubs the sarcoid more when she scratches her face. I also use an antibacterial gel to keep it covered but that doesn't last that long and is very messy.

Does anyone have any suggestions to try and protect the area from flies and the sun or to discourage her from rubing it and making it bleed?
 
Can you not just use a fly mask with reasonably rigid material to keep it away from the eyes? I think there are new masks available that have a large gap between the mask and eye.
 
That's what I have but I think it's when she rubs her head (on her leg or a gate for example) the mesh of the mask is rubbing against the sarcoid and irritating it more. I don't know whether a softer mask might be better, but I'm not sure what options there are or if I should leave it uncovered.
 
Depending on exact location you may find some racing blinkers or an eye shield would provide a more rigid cover, perhaps combined with some mesh to keep flies out? Try googling or somewhere like Gibsons of Newmarket.
 
My gelding had a sarcoid in the same place.

It ge huge.
He has two ops to remove a golf ball sized amount each time.
Then had bcg injections.
Its not come back and you cant even see a mark.

I used a fly mask with very soft material. It was actually a cheap one from robinsons.
It didnt rub at all.
Plus cream will help or vasaline as suggested.
