Does anyone have any experience with this, especially any treatments that worked/did not work?
Rusky developped a very small lump on his sheath last year, but it remained the same size. The last couple of weeks it has suddenly increased to about four times the size (it is now about as bit as two interconnected peas) and I am wondering whether it is better to do something rather than leave it any longer.

Thanks

Liverpool cream is excellent but needs to be applied by the vet over 4 visits, a few days apart and it will burn the skin around the sarcoid. Have you tried 30c strength Thuja cream? It worked just as well for my boy and is mild and doesn't harm the surrounding skin. I'm thinking that the skin and tissue around your ned's sheath is gonna be thin and very sensitive. You can get good quality Thuja cream in a decent sized tub from Paws4Health. x

Hi there, my gelding had two sarcoids in that area, one on his sheath and one directly opposite on his inner thigh. They were small and nodular, but I wasn't prepared to take the risk that they would turn fibroblastic and cause a huge problem at a later date. I had them banded and then treated with liverpool cream once the sarcoids had dropped off. The cream is good, but it's extremely potent and if it gets on any healthy skin it will just strip off: one vet that came out got terribly exuberant and slathered the cream on (other vet had been dabbing it very carefully on just the affected area, as they're meant to!). Result was an extremely uncomfortable horse who couldn't stand still. I don't know why the damn things get worse in Spring, but if they're still small I would def treat them now. I don't know how much the treatment costs as I had the previous owner pay for it as a condition of the sale. Best of luck.

My horse had a sacrcoid in exactly the same area- my vet said that I had 2 options - either surgically remove it or could possibly use Liverpool cream- we opted for removal because the Liverpool cream doesnt always work, is v expensive and the vet would have had to make a few visits to apply. He was sedated and my vet cut the sarcoid out- In my opinion its always best to treat sarcoids sooner rather than later. He had stiches in it and then where there was a small scar once the stitches were removed we had to apply a cream to reduce the proud flesh- this treatment worked really well.

My vet advised against using a caustic cream as being in a very sensitive area he would get used to the cream being applied and then would probably start lashing out etc so could potentially have been a bit dangerous!

everyone has different ideas on Sarcoids, but I always opt for removal as its quicker and cheaper.

My vet has the only CO2 lazer in the country and a PHd vet doing a research project on them who does the work. We have had several horses with sarcoids in this area treated and they have been removed and healed without hardly a trace.
You can PM me if you need more info. Its very cost effective, much more so than the Liverpool cream and better results.

Hi

My old boy had sarcoids on his sheath, I had them injected which seemed to shrink them but then they grew back which the vet did warn could happen, in the end as they weren't causing him any pain/discomfort then we made the decision to leave them.

The cream was unsuitable for my horse due to the problems that have been outlined above, however, at one stage there was talk of surgical intervention, but again it came back down to the fact that they weren't bothering him so we let mother nature do her job and left them be.

However, I do have to stress that everytime the vet came out for whatever reason, he did always check the sarcoids and kept a very close eye on them.
