I have a couple of questions (posted on behalf of a friend). First - is Global Herbs Sarc-ex any good? And secondly, has anyone been warned by their vet about possible interactions between Sarc-ex and veterinary treatments for sarcoids?

Experiences and/or opinions would be gratefully received :)

Hi, the advice from Prof Knottenbelt at Liverpool (who is the leading authority on sarcoids) advises on his site to not mess about with over the counter remedies - you need to hit them hard with the best possible medical treatment. My horse has just finished course of Liverpool Cream on three small sarcoidsm all sore at the mo so can't tell you whether it has worked or not yet for us. I have however heard from others that Sarc Ex does work. I decided as my horse is insured to go for the best treatment possible. If it doesn't work, I may well be going down the herbal route!

Thaks for that, useful stuff. Prof Knotty is also the leading authority on ragwort, he must have a very big brain ;)

Mine had successful treatment for sarcoids, Liverpool Cream and has been on Sarc-ex ever since (over a year). The vet didn't mention to not use it but then I didn't say I was going to. I don't know if it's useful or not: I've seen no sign of new sarcoids but that could just be a fluke, dunno. Sarc-ex is meant to boost the immune system so I don't see the harm in using it. I didn't use it at the same time as he had Liverpool cream but as that's a very localised treatment, I don't see why you shouldn't. I see the Professor says not to mess with over the counter remedies but I presume he means if you want rid, then use Liverpool cream as it's fierce and works.

Sarc ex does work in my experienced HOWEVER I think its a forever thing. Toffee was on it for about 6 months sarcoids went and then came back 2 months after not being on it.

Funnily enough have bought another one today as Samba has a large one so gonna give sarc ex another go. However not gonna cry if it doesnt work.

I haven't used it, but have had HUGE success with Sarc-off - was going to try Sarc-ex if it didn't work, but have had 100% success on 3 different sarcoids now. My vet has other success stories as well.

Very interesting, thanks guys. Sounds like my friend has been told by her vet that if she tries anything herbal, this will wreck the chances of any treatment the vet might try working. Sounded a bit strange to me - I did study pharmacology yonks ago & unless the active ingredients interact I can't see why there should be a problem, but then sarcoids are just plain weird so normal rules might not apply :o I'll mention Sarc-off to her ;)
