Hi All

About two or three months ago whilst being clipped, my mare got nicked by the blades between her front legs in the wrinkly skin next to her off fore. This healed well and was very small so no concern. However, after a while a small lump formed under the skin and grew to about the size of a 5pence piece.

I kept an eye on it and it didnt change for some weeks, then recently it suddenly had no skin covering it (literally over night) and is about the size of a ten pence piece and looks like a half circle of pink shiny skin protruding from the area.. My immediate thought was that it had become a sarcoid but it scabbed back over and seemed fine. This was a couple of weeks ago. The scab has come off again in the last couple of days and I have cleaned it but am going to call the vet Monday to get them to give a prognosis as I am now wondering if it is proud flesh?? It has started to heal in underneath the wierd skinless lump which makes me lean toward proud flesh. Has anyone had experience of as lump suddenly bursting open to be a sarcoid or proud flesh?? I am under the impression sarcoids grow not suddenly appear that large? any advice very welcome!!

My big lad had something similar on his front leg, it went away by itself after about 3-4 weeks. Still not idea what it was, but it's gone, so all good :)

Sarcoids are prone to forming at the edge of skin wounds in horses that already have them. If its not one it sounds like it'll need trimming to help healing so I'd see what vet says and keep it clean until then.
