My girl developed a sarcoid in the spring - started as a tiny bump then grew to what’s now a pea-sized lump. It’s on the inside of her off fore.
Vet had a look at it when she was out for something else and said it could be lasered off at the yard. I know they take quite a margin though and I’m reluctant due to flies etc. (would be nice to go 1 month without a vet bill too 🤣).
I’ve been applying thuja cream in the vague hope it might do something, it hasn’t so far though.

Would you:
A - get it lasered off pronto despite risk of flies at this time of year
B - monitor, continue with thuja, and plan to get lasered off in autumn/winter after fly season
C - leave it as long as not growing more or causing problems

Or something else?
Pics attached of it today (the gross looking stuff is thuja cream and yellow fly cream from yesterday!).IMG_9819-compressed.jpeg

I think mine had a few that just looked like old scars. I tried sarcex but it did nothing. I started her on oily herbs after reading a thread about them here but I was just feeding them for general health benefits that folk had reportedly seen. 2 have completely disappeared and the older biggest one is looking much better since having her on the herbs.

I'd leave it alone, apply fly cream close by but not on. Monitor and of it grows have it removed later in the year,if it doesn't grow I'd leave it be.

If your not already feeding a vitamin and mineral supplement I would start I think it makes such a difference, all of Arabi's sarcoids always coincided with an illness or a period of stress/lameness my vet told me they are linked to poor immunity so if they are prone to them I would always feed one.

I also feed oily herbs.

I’d leave it a little longer, but make sure the flies don’t get to it. If it starts to really grow quick then I’d hit it hard and laser/chemo cream

My horse had a sarcoid lasered off. Huge hole. Weeks off work. Grew straight back again. Wish I'd left it alone as it wasn't causing an issue. Certainly wouldn't do it in fly season.

My first horse had an angleberry on his throat, half way down his windpipe and had it removed by scalpel. This was in 1995/96.

Vet cut it in half and let me run the scalpel over the inside of it, it was rough like sandpaper. I made a neck cover with elastic and old net curtains for him to wear in the field to keep the flies off. He looked a bit of a divvy but it did the trick!

It had to come off as he kept catching it on the barbed wire fencing.

It isn’t growing now, it grew incredibly quickly from a tiny bump to pea sized and stopped. I am of course monitoring closely.

It would be hard to make a fly proof cover that still allows air to get to it, where it is, just below the elbow. Reluctant to do anything that’s going to leave a big open wound at this time of year.

She actually isn’t on a balancer at the moment - I got Equimins Hoof Mender in a bid to save a bit of money and she WILL NOT touch it 😤 I need to bite the bullet and order the FP. Bizarre that she’ll eat that, but not the Equimins pellets which are supposedly quite palatable!

Started her back on oily herbs anyway, wonder if Sarc X worth a go, I had always sort of assumed it was a load of rubbish 🫣 but then I’ve never had to deal with sarcoid son my horse horse before!

If its size is stable I would leave it be at least until October .
Keep the horse in tip top shape anything that stresses him don’t do .
Keep the sarcoid well covered with summer fly cream .
I would get it off with a laser it is messy but recovery is normally straight forward .
I have loads lasered off taken off with cream and cut out by the vet over years .
Sarcoids are a fact of life with horses .

A friend of mine had a lot of success with Sarcex. I remember watching the sarcoids drop off, so it seems to work for some.

FP does nothing for sarcoids IME. I used Sarc-X and happened to have 1 pop out (I popped it out!) But I didn't continue after the tub was done as I wasn't wholly convinced. The other sarcoids did nothing. It wasn't until the oily herbs and I remember it working quite quickly.
