Just been cleaning around D's bits
tongue.gif

notice there is a small lump (about size of 5 pence piece) on one side (very round and hard) and directly underneath it there is a small flat hard lump as well - like a flap of thick hard skin.

I know when i bought him the vetting bought up he had some scar tissue from when he was cut which i think is the flappy bit but haven't noticed the lump before.

The vet will have a look when he comes out for his jabs soon anyway but thought i would ask if the lump could be anything else?

Can post piccies if need be!

Oh blimey Fran - had to re-read that three times to make sense of it lol. I thought your ned was having trouble with his BIT...you know, the metal thing that goes in his mouth!

It could be just a fatty lump built up around the scar tissue. If it's hard it won't be a tiny hernia. Defo a vet job!

sorry i wrote it in a real rush to pick someone up from the train !

My last horse had a sarcoid on the inside of her back leg but this doesn't look quite the same. Shall get the vet to check when he does his jabs!

Are his 'bits' nice and clean. I only ask as my old gelding used to get quite a build up of the black greasy stuff in that area (as he wasn't obliging about putting it 'out' to get washed), sometimes I thought he had nodules building up but they always picked off if that makes sense.

I hope it isn't a sarcoid - I'm sure its a horrid place to treat.

My little mare has a tiny one on the inside of her thigh and I have just ordered some thuja cream and tablets for her.

The problem is that there are 6 different types of sarcoid, all of which look different. If this lump is a sarcoid, I would imagine it to be a nodular one (just a hard lump under the skin) but your mare may have had another type, for example verrucous (warty) or fibroblastic (ulcerated, the really nasty looking ones).

Another lumpy problem that horses get on the penis is squamous cell carcinoma, which can require an operation or cryotherapy to remove.

The vet will obviously be able to shed some light on it- here's hoping it's just a harmless wart or lump!

thanks everyone it is on the sheath quite far back towards his back legs so in a clean area.
