Sarcoids - advice please

I have a home bred horse who has been receiving treatment for a bad sarcoid on his eyelid. He has been receiving injections with a specialist cancer drug - it seems to be working but does look awful and will be painful for him. He developed the sarcoids when he was around 5 year old (turning 7 this year) and he suffers from mild sweet itch in summer which I manage well with rugs and masks.

He also has sarcoids on his sheath and one on his shoulder which were lasered off but seem to be recurring. I have read about the use of Thuja Cream and Thuja pills as a homeopathic treatment. Does anyone have any comments or advice on this form of treatment. If I feed the pills, what quantity of the 30c pills would you feed? I feel like I am fighting a losing battle at the moment with him.

I would appreciate comments from people who are either in the same predicament or have been there.

Thank you.

I had my boy’s nine lasered as he was having an op for something else and they all came back :( Liverpool cream was then successful and he now only has one tiny under the skin one between his front legs that was missed when he was treated. Is there any reason why you didn’t treat the ones on his sheath at the same time as the eye?

I tried Thuja cream without any success but it could be worth a go. I think you need to be careful of trying lots of things as they just get more stubborn.

The whole lot were lasered first but the laser was too intrusive on the eye and could not fully treat it. The ones on the sheath were initially got rid of but I have noticed a couple which may be coming back and around his thighs. My vet then referred pictures of the eye to Glasgow to Derek Knottenbelt who recommended the cancer drug injections. I feel like he is going to be plagued with them forever!

One of my liveries bought a horse with a few tiny sarcoids on his face, he had previously had some lasered and other treatments with varying degrees of success, she used thuja cream and tablets for some time and they went with no signs of any coming back in the time I knew him, 3 years or so, it is worth a try as it didn't cause any discomfort or swelling, they just seemed to shrink into themselves.

Just jumping in on this thread, my mare has a small one below her one eye which I have down on the vet's list when he has enough to bring in a laser. I am very concerned that those lasered off returned as I thought the laser option was the best option that worked?

There are at least 3 which appear to have returned - the vet seems convinced they are new growths or re-growths and not scar tissue. This does concern me too. I am going to try thuja cream and pills and possibly Global Herbs Sarcex as it is non invasive and may or may not work

I’m not sure they’d laser near an eye. It leaves a pretty big hole. I’d have thought the best course of action would be for your vet to send photos to Prof Knottelbelt and let him suggest a treatment.
