Tried thuja and toothpaste to no avail, they are plenty but only small but very annoying. Any creams or something you can recommend that don't burn or hurt, that work and won't break the bank!!!
Thanks

Have answered on your other thread. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that flouride can reduce them; many vets across the pond condone its use, although it very much depends on their type. To this end, and with the support of my vet, I have applied Duraphat 500 - £27 for three tubes. Treat for two weeks and rest for one. I have had my boy for two months; he came with 17, 10 have all but disappeared. A large nodular one dropped off today.

ETA. I did this with the full support of my vet and a back up plan. And a great deal of research.

Don't mess with sarcoids-get a professional opinion or you can end up in a lot of trouble with increased growth and spread

I have spoken to my vet, she suggested Liverpool cream etc, but I said no, too expensive and so she suggested Asia try toothpaste but that didn,t work so I tried thuja, and that didn,t either!

I was of the understanding that some sarcoids are virus like a wart and not all cancerous. I used thuja for two different horses and it worked although one needed to be tied off.

Please, please don't mess with Sarcoids. If they are not causing your horse problems at the moment, leave them and if they are causing a problem then go back to your vet. Sarcoids can turn nasty so easily and it would be a tradegy for you to lose your horse because you tried to deal with them on the cheap. You do hear some 'miracle' stories but there are atleast as many that end in disaster. What about talking to Liverpool about it? They are sarcoid experts.

liverpool cream might look nasty during treatment but it is the end result which counts. - I cannot understand why anyone would not choose to get photos looked at by the great service we have at liverpool and follow their experience and recommendation. - Complaining that it is too expensive to follow veterinary advice makes me feel for the horse a bit tbh.

I say this as I send my lad off for a further round (3rd go) of cream based chemotherapy and cryotherapy treatment of a suspected (based purely on it's positioning) small carcinoma on his penis... it could have easily been ignored and untreated but would likely result in his demise via spread of the cancer, or require surgical removal (putting him under full anesthetic at an advanced age).

It is a prescription toothpaste often given to chemotherapy patients.

Google professor knottenbelt and see what he says about toothpaste and sarcoids.

Actually, Duraphat isn't just for chemo patients. When you visit your dentist for a checkup, sometimes they will prescribe it for you if you are having problems. I had to use it for a year as was having massive problems with tooth sensitivity. Had to buy it from the dentist, cost about £6 a tube IIRC (back on normal Sensodyne now, at dentist recommendation). Has to be bought on prescription though because of the high fluoride content.

OP, don't mess about with sarcoids. They are skin cancer. Why put your horse's health at risk? Mine developed a sarcoid quite soon after I bought him last year. It was treated immediately with Liverpool Cream. His case was nothing like the scare stories on the Liverpool website. He had a little sarcoid, needed 3 applications of full strength cream. It swelled up the size of a tennis ball, swelling went down after 24 hours. He was never sore on it or funny about it being touched. It scabbed over then after about 6 weeks the scab peeled off. That was it. Been checked by 2 vets since and it's just dark skin now, no sarcoid. And it wasn't expensive either.

By looking for a cheap way to deal with them now, you could well make them worse and then end up with a very big vet's bill...

Liverpool cream is too expensive and it looks nasty, I have seen pictures of the result...

I have used Liverpool cream several times the result is perfect normal scar .
Its chemotherapy cream it costs money sarcoids are potentially catastrophic for the horse they need proper treatment.
If you don't use cream lasering is an option depending on type and location .
Mucking about with them risks your horse and other peoples .

This absolutely. Was lucky enough to go to one of Derek Knottenbelt's talks about sarcoids. Not things to tackle randomly with anything - it's a form of cancer. Get veterinary advice.

A couple of months back people had been posting pictures of the sarcoids that had been having toothpaste on. How are they doing now? Has anyone any follow up pictures?

I think people may well be loathe to do so given the slating by some HHOers about the use of it. Also Derek Knottenbelt's article being quoted. I personally think that some research should go into the toothpaste treatment and I don't believe that it was just 'luck' for those that used it sccessfully that they would have been amongst the 10% of owners whose horses would have had a disappearing variety.
I have seen very successfully treated examples.

I originally started the " toothpaste sarcoid thread , a year ago now and after reading Derek Knoottenbelt,s article, I think it was me he was referring too!
I only started that thread because of my amazing results with my boy,s very nasty sarcoid, which has not returned! Forums are for sharing things and that was what I was doing! I was not suggesting every one should use it, that is up to them! I was just so pleased it had worked for me!!!!

It was wagtail who was doing the day by day update thread on the toothpaste thing too, I wonder if she could update on the outcome.

This basically........ FFS I can't understand WHY people mess with sarcoids themselves just to try and save a few pennies, when the greater economy would be to do the sensible thing and get the vet to begin with.

My horse had a sarcoidosis on his chest last year used Camrosa cream on it when it when it bigger tied it off it went like an ulcer we kept putting the cream on looked horrible but fell off now it has healed and all is left is a small scar have this cream a few times would recommend

Camrosa is supposed to promote cell production thus there's no way I would put it on a sarciod .
Fatty was nodular sarcoids every time one appears I use toothpaste on it until the vet has the laser in the surgery for a removal day they then get lasered .
I am not sure toothpaste does anything but vet is ok with to using it until the next clinic.

The Camrosa cleared my lads sarcoid up so can only go off my experience with it but I know other people who have used it as well with good effect

My ISH had varicose and nodular sarcoids, he had a lot of nodular ones, they wernt huge but still a lot of them, these were on the belly, sheath and back legs. I used liverpool cream, it was very painful and only one sarcoid dropped off, 3 months later another did but that was it. Coming into summer I decided not to re do the cream until winter, i put him on global herbs restore(liquid), just as a boost, a month after starting i noticed the sarcoids getting bigger but not looking aggressive, i got another lot and a couple of months later there was only 1 varicose sarcoid left. I now keep him on restore as a maintenance dose. I also used duraphat 5000 on his varicose one, its taken a while but is shrinking and doesnt look aggressive at all.

I am not saying its the end of my horses sarcoids but at the moment i feel as if im in control and i am very happy.

My vet did take a look at banding a few but the root was too big so we decided not too, if they dont have a deep root that is another way. Sometimes they band before putting liverpool cream on. They also suggested newmarket creme.

My friends horse had loads, from front to back, they lasered them off, however some have come back, he now has one on his face that looks angry. She has recently got thuja cream and tablets and it is looking a lot better already, drier and shrunk to half the size.

There seem to be so many ways to deal with sarcoids, what works for one may not work for another. All i know is my horses skin looks clear now :)

But how did you get hold of the duraphat 5000? I thought you can only get it on prescription, and I certainly don't need ahigh fluoride prescription toothpaste!!!

It is hard to get hold of, i got mine from ebay. They cancelled the bid but i said to the lady i still wanted it.
I have a lot of them. Im in kent, if your near your welcome to have one.
