Depends how they were treated. If it was by Liverpool cream there is approx. a 50% recurral rate, but that remains constant - so 50% come back - treat again and 50% of those come back (ie. 25% of total) etc. Hope that's clear as mud?
Depending on where they are they don't often cause problems (but some of the ones that cause problems can cause big problems). They're rarely a cause of a failed vetting these days unless they're big, have been treated unsuccessfully or are in a tack area.
Out of the last 5 horses I've had, one has been entirely 100% sarcoid free (but I probably just look more closely than most!).
Rafi got an enormous one when he was 3 and it was trated with liverpool cream and , nearly went then had another treatment and it went . No return yet 3 years on
I bought a T.B. out of training good few years ago and when I had him vetted the vet noted a small scar on his inner thigh and said it was probably where a sarcoid had been removed (surgically).
I had had him for 18 months when it came back. I then had it treated with the Liverpool Cream and kept him another 4 years and sold him. When sold there was no sign of it's return.
Sarcoids wouldn't necessarily put me off buying a horse - I would prefer if they had been treated with the Liverpoool Cream and also would depend on the site of the sarcoids.
I had a horse a while a go, that had sarcoids, that actually went to liverpool for some sort of treatment. And they never came back or affected the horse. It certainly wouldn't put me off buying a horse!
