I am just wondering if anyone has had success with neem oil on sarcoids? Mine has been on sarc ex for about 9 months, all but two have been resolved, and I just can't seem to shift them. Much, much small, little lumps under the skin now, but wondered about neem?

There was strong research at one time that vitamin E cream or oil worked well on sarcoids and got rid of a couple of small ones that my previous horse had. Vitamin E : break a capsule of pure vitamin E open and rub on the sarcoid. It may be the rubbing action more than the vitamin E but it worked with mine although they were very small ones.

Hmm, I will look into that, I am just so scared of inflaming them as they were big when he came, but are just little now. Thank you

Yes, thuja, tablets and cream and camrosa. And also a pot of Sarc Ex cream. The camrosa inflamed it, the thuja didn't do anything at all. I started using the Sarc Ex cream but stopped because he got a bit touchy about it and so stuck just to the Sarc Ex feed supplement. They are very small now and under the skin and he doesn't mind me feeling now to see how they are.

Yes, I was told neem oil would help with sarcoids, but wasn't sure.

By who?? Can I refer to you this website:

http://www.liv.ac.uk/sarcoids/treatment/index.htm

Particularly this paragraph:

Homeopathic and herbal medicines are entirely unpredictable. In general cell stimulators such as Allovera are contraindicated and can be very dangerous. Usually any interference has the likelihood of inducing exacerbation and the worst interference is one that has no benefit at all – this simply leaves the case with exacerbation as the only likely outcome.

Be very, very careful what you put on true sarcoids, which are skin cancers. You have to ask yourself, if YOU had a diagnosis of skin cancer, would you want to rub neem oil or even vitamin E into it as a cure? The same is true for Camrosa. If you read every word of the literature that accompanies Camrosa, it says DON'T use it for sarcoids. It contains heavy metals and is not suitable for them. It's very difficult to decide if an odd lump or bump or dodgy patch is a sarcoid or a wart or just an odd lump. If owners successfully self-treat things that AREN'T sarcoids but that they think ARE (if you see what I'm saying) then it's easy to think that whatever was applied is a dead cert cure for sarcoids. The link GigglePig has given is to the definitive owners guide to sarcoids, written by Professor Derek Knottenbelt who is a world expert on sarcoids in horses (amongst other things). The other thing to be ultra wary of is anything at all (tea tree oil and aloe vera especially) that says on the packet "promotes skin growth". The absolute last thing a true skin cancer wants is something that will encourage it to grow further. Thuja cream I'm ok with because it fits the owner's self-help rule first, do no harm. If it was me I'd get the vet to give an opinion. Warts etc can usually be safely left to the owner but true sarcoids need careful monitoring. It's worth remembering that most surgical interventions eg excising, freezing can also exacerbate a true sarcoid. Liverpool Cream (developed by the Prof) has a relatively high success rate.

Tried various things like this for various complaints and found them to be a little better than useless not saying some dont work before all the alternative therapists jump down my throat. However, most of the evidence regarding there effectiveness is anecdotal and blind tests continually show that most of them come up way short of what it says on the tin. My advice regards sarcoids is get the vet to have a look you could save yourself a lot of money in the long run.

Thanks - I had him vetted and he had them, they don't really cause a problem, I would prefer them just not to be there! I am in two minds about the Liverpool cream, I have heard some horror stories about it, and it (like everything else) is not 100% certainty that it will work. I think I will keep going with the Sarc Ex as it has shifted several. Thank you all.

I know someone who is currently treating small sarcoids with neem and it is reducing the size of the sarcoids - well it is assumed that it is the neem anyway.

There is a tree growing in the Eden project with a notice beneath telling what it has been used for. Can't recall what it was off hand. Apparently a very old remedy in country where it is grown. Can't remember that either. Not much help am I

If you read the fine print on the Camrosa stuff, you will see that it is NOT for use on sarcoids. I wouldn't put Camrosa within 5 miles of any sarcoid or dodgy lump or bump. Sarcoids area a form of skin cancer. I've said this before but will say it again: if YOU had a skin cancer on your arm, would you faff about rubbing god only knows what into it or sprinkling herbal whatnot on your cornflakes or would you leg it straight down to your doctor to get it properly dealt with? And products that say things like "promotes new skin growth" you want to keep well away from too. You could be encouraging cancer cells to grow. Aloe vera and tea tree products are definite no-nos.

Just to hijack a bit, Prof Knottenbelt is giving a talk on Sarcoids and Eye Emergencies in Whitchurch, Shropshire next Thursday 17th. It is being arranged by our vets but you don't have to be clients, pm if you want more info.
