Sarcoids

I have noticed one of our broodmares has developed a few sarcoids around her stomach and teats, one of which has grown a lot and is bleeding. The mare is due to foal in june and I am worried about flies being attracted to the blood and the foals face getting blood on it when it feeds. Do you think it would be worth trying to treat or remove it now or leave it alone and hope it dries up on its own?
 
Barley, had great success with our gelding with one quite nasty sarcoid between his front legs using thuja cream and tablets in feed ... there's a great homeopathic pharmacy in London that will post you the correct amounts, etc, if you ring them. Can't remember their contact details offhand, as this was some time ago, but will look up for you if you're interested in following this up. The sarcoid reduced almost immediately in size, healed over, and now (several years later) has completely disappeared ...

As your mare is in foal it might be worth checking that its OK to treat her with thuja, but can't imagine that it wouldn't be OK
 
To be honest, I'd leave it well alone or seek your vets advice. We put one of our broodmares out on lease who at the time had a few small sarcoids and told them NOT to treat them. They went against our wishes and started different courses of treatement. When she came back home to us last year, we couldn't believe the state of her. They were huge - one especially was abut the size of a tennis ball - hanging down, rotting, bleeding constantly and was full of maggots where half a course of treatment had been started, but then apparently it got too dear, so they stopped. A couple of days ago, we asked our vet to have another look at it, because it was still bleeding on a daily basis and looked like an "alien" hanging out of her guts, and also stank. He said it was one of the worst he'd ever seen and said he'd try and put a band on it. Eventually he managed to get the band on, but then, because it was so big, he couldn't get the tool off of her which took a bit of an effort to release it. Anyway, four days on now, it is hanging on by literally a thread and we think it will be off tomorrow. Our vet has said it may grow back again but hopefully if it does, we can keep it under control. This will not effect her being used as a broodmare. She's been in foal and given birth when the sarcoids have been there, and is due to be covered in a couple of days time. If the big sarcoid eventually comes up again whilst she's in foal, it will be left until the foal is born. Our vet reassures us that no way will the foal get anywhere near the sarcoid and this big one is literally at the side of her teats as well.
 
i know that some horses dont respond well to camarosa on sacroids, so i would really wait untill you speak to your vet

Exactly, makes you wonder why people would breed at all with mares who have sarcoids.
